FSSAI Extends Date of compliance on Logo for packaged foods

The compliance date of the new guidelines/ clarifications for the FSSAI Logo and License number on the label of the food products has been extended to 1st January 2015 through the notification of FSSAI dated 23rd June 2014. All earlier notifications on the issue of logo and license number on labels have been superseded. Here are some points you must keep in mind about the changes that the regulatory has clarified:

1. You have to keep in mind that the FSSAI logo and license number to be displayed on the label must be in contrast colour to the background so that the logo and license number are easily visible.

2. In case you need to have addresses of multiple units like manufacturer, packer, re-labeller, marketer on the food packet then remember that you have to display the FSSAI logo and license number of the brand owner. The other multiple units will have the license number displayed along with their addresses.

3. If you are an importer then according to Food Safety & Standards (Packaging & Labelling) Regulations, 2011 on imported food products, you will have to display FSSAI logo and license number and name and address of the importer on the label. You can either pre-print these on the label or have them on a sticker affixed on the food article, before custom clearance.

4. You will have to make the height of the letters and numerals of the license as prescribed in2.3.3 of the Food Safety & Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Regulations, 2011.

5. You will have to follow regulation 2.6.1 of the FSS (Packaging and Labeling) Regulations 2011for the display of FSSAI license number and logo.

6. Remember that the display of the FSSAI logo on the label of the food product is not a mark of certification but it just signifies that the FBO has a valid license under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

வேலூர் மாநகராட்சிக்கு உட்பட்ட புதிய மற்றும் பழைய பஸ் நிலையம், காட்பாடி ரயில் நிலையம், ஆற்காடு சாலையில் உள்ள ஓட்டல், கடைகளில் காலாவதியான, தடை செய்யப்பட்ட பொருட்கள் விற்பனை செய்யப்படுவதாக மாவட்ட உணவு பாதுகாப்பு நியமன அலுவலர் மணிமாறனுக்கு புகார்கள் வந்தது.

அதன்பேரில் உணவு பாதுகாப்பு அலுவலர்கள் கொளஞ்சி, சுரேஷ் தலைமையிலான 10க்கும் மேற்பட்ட மாநகராட்சி ஊழியர்கள் நேற்று பகல் 12 மணியளவில் வேலூர் புதிய பஸ்நிலையத்தில் அதிரடி ரெய்டு நடத்தினர்.

அப்போது பெட்டிக் கடைகளில் விற்பனைக்காக வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த ரூ.10 ஆயிரம் மதிப்புள்ள பான்பராக் போதை பொருட் களை பறிமுதல் செய்தனர். ஓட்டல்களில் நடந்த ரெய்டில் காலாவதியான இட்லி மாவு, ஐஎஸ்ஐ முத்திரையில்லாத வாட்டர் பாக்கெட்டுகள், நேற்று முன்தினம் சமைக்கப்பட்ட பரோட்டா, 5 கிலோ சிக்கன் ஆகியவற்றை கைப்பற்றினர்.

அதேபோல் கடைகளில் லேபிள்கள் இல்லாத முறுக்கு, மிக்சர், சிப்ஸ் பாக்கெட்டுகளையும் பறிமுதல் செய்தனர். மேலும் அங்குள்ள ஒரு கடையில் ஆரஞ்சு ஜூஸ் தயார் செய்து கொண்டிருந்தனர். அவை சுகாதாரமற்ற முறையில் இருந்ததால் அவற்றையும் பறிமுதல் செய்து அழித்தனர்.

இதுகுறித்து உணவு பாதுகாப்பு அலுவலர்கள் கூறுகையில், ‘மாநகர பகுதிகளில் உள்ள கடைகள் மற்றும் ஓட்டல்களில் காலாவதியான பொருட்கள் விற்பனை செய்வதாக புகார்கள் வந்துள்ளது என்றார்

திருச்செங்கோட்டில் நடத்திடிய சோதனையில் ரூ.60 ஆயிரம் மதிப்பிலான புகையிலை பொருட்களை அதிகாரிகள் அதிரடியாக பறிமுதல் செய்தனர்.

திருச்செங்கோடு புதிய பஸ் நிலைய பகுதியில் நேற்று உணவு பாதுகாப்பு அலுவலர்கள் சோதனையில் ஈடுபட்டனர். மாவட்ட நியமன அலுவலர் தமிழ்ச்செல்வன், உணவு பாதுகாப்பு அலுவலர்கள் செந்தில் பாலமுருகன் மற்றும் நகராட்சி அலுவலர்கள் 50க்கும் மேற்பட்டோர் கடை கடையாக சென்று ஆய்வு பணியில் ஈடுபட்டனர்.

அப்போது, விற்பனைக்காக வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த தடை சய்யப்பட்ட புகையிலை, பான்பராக், ஹான்ஸ் மற்றும் காலாவதியான பானங்கள் போன்றவற்றை பறிமுதல் செய்தனர். இதன் மதிப்பு சுமார் 60 ஆயிரம் இருக்கும். இம்மாதிரியான சோதனைகள் அடிக்கடி நடைபெறும். இதில், தடை செய்யப்பட்ட பொருட்கள் மற்றும் காலாவதியான பொருட்கள் விற்பனை செய்யப்படுவது தெரிய வந்தால் கடும் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படுமென அதிகாரிகள் எச்சரிக்கை விடுத்தனர்.

பள்ளிகள் அருகிலேயே பான்பராக், குட்கா விற்பனை படுஜோர்

தமிழக அரசு பான் மசாலா, குட்கா மற்றும் புகையிலை பொருட்கள் விற்பனை செய்வதற்கு தடை செய்துள்ளது. ஆனால் கம்பம் நகர் பகுதி யில் புதிய பஸ் ஸ்டாண்ட், வேலப்பர் கோயில் தெரு, கம்பம் மெட்டு ரோடு, புது பள்ளிவாசல் தெரு, காந்தி சிலை ரோடு, கம்பம் வாரச்சந்தைகளிலும் மற்றும் மெயின் ரோடுகளில் உள்ள அனைத்து பெட்டிக் கடைகளிலும் பொதுமக்கள் பார்வையில் படும்படி புகையிலை பொருட்களை சரம் சரமாக தொங்கவிட்டு பகிரங்கமாக விற்பனை செய்து வருகின்றனர்.

இதனால் இந்த பழக்கத்தை கைவிட்டவர்கள் கூட மீண்டும் புகையிலை பொருட்களை பயன்படுத்த துவங்கி விட்டனர். மேலும் பள்ளி, கல்லூரிகள் அருகி லேயே புகையிலை பொருட் கள் விற்பனை செய்யப்படுவதால், இதனை வாங்கி பயன்படுத்தும் மாணவர்களும் பெருமளவில் பாதிக்கப்படுகின்றனர். எனவே கம்பம் பகுதிகளில் அதிகரித்துள்ள தடை செய்யப்பட்ட புகையிலை பொருட் கள் விற்பனையை தடுக்க அதிகாரிகள் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும் என சமூக ஆர்வலர்கள் கோ ரிக்கை விடுத்துள்ள னர்.

வேகமாக வளர்ந்து வரும் நாகரீக உலகில் கலப்பட உணவு பொருள்கள் மூலம் பலப்பலநோய்கள் உருவாகிறது. குறிப்பாக கண்பார்வை மங்குதல், வயிறுவலி, வயிற்றுப்போக்கு, நெஞ்சுவலி, மாரடைப்பு, தோல்நோய், உடலில்கட்டி, ஆண் மலட்டுத்தன்மை, புற்றுநோய், மூளையின் பணி முடக்கம், போன்ற நோய்கள் கலப்பட பொருள்களை பயன்படுத்துவதால் ஏற்படுகிறது. உணவில் கலப்படம் என்பது இன்று சமூகநோய் ஆக உள்ளது.

உணவு கலப்படத்தை விரட்டும் போர்ப்படை தளபதியாக அக்மார்க் திட்டம் செயல்பட்டு வருகிறது.

இத்திட்டத்தின்படி உணவு பொருள்களில் இருந்து மாதிரி எடுத்து பல பரிசோதனைகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்படுகிறது. குறிப்பாக தாவர சமையல் எண்ணைகளுக்கு அமிலத்தன்மை சோதனை, ஒளி விலகல் சோதனை, அடர்த்தி எண் சோதனை, அயோடின் மதிப்புசோதனை, பிற எண்ணை கலப்பட சோதனை போன்ற பல பரிசோதனைகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்படுகிறது.

LIQUOR CONSIGNMENTS BEING HELD UP AT AIRPORTS

NEW DELHI: Failure of European wine and Scotch makers to comply with India's new food labeling requirements has resulted in liquor consignments being held up at some airports — a fallout of the latest spat between New Delhi and the European Union, the 27-nation trading bloc.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) recently notified new norms that require bottlers to disclose ingredients used in a drink. Several European winemakers and the Scotch manufacturers have, however, refused to comply with the guidelines arguing that the alcoholic beverages are made only from one ingredient. In any case, these requirements are not there in European markets, said a source familiar with the discussions.

Indian authorities have countered it, saying that preservatives and caramel may have been used in the liquors and need to be disclosed. "Besides, these are India's legal requirements that need to be complied with if anyone wants to sell in the market," said an official.

A EU delegation is flying down to India for a meeting of the Joint Commission on standards to resolve the impasse.

The stand-off has resulted in some of the consignments being held up at airports, although customs authorities said that the quantities are not very large. "The demand comes down during the summer months resulting in lower imports. States also introduce new excise policies at the start of the financial year, which slows down the flow of consignments into India," a customs official said.

The dispute over food labeling standards is the latest spat between India and the EU, which banned the import of Alphonso mangoes and four other vegetables — eggplant, the taro plant, bitter gourd and snake gourd - from India, citing the presence of pests such as fruit flies in them. The Centre has taken up the issue and a European delegation is expected to visit India in September to review the situation. But the "temporary ban" has meant that mango farmers are losing out on a season of exports.

Even boxes used as packing material are under lens and there have been reports of paan leaves facing restrictions in the EU.

Odisha govt.moots coordinated action for prohibition of tobacco

The Odisha government has initiated inter departmental coordination action plan for prohibition of the consumption of tobacco in the state.

A high level meeting held here yesterday decided to intensify the Information Education and Communication (IEC) activities to make people aware about the dangers involved in consumption of tobacco.

Chief Secretary J K Mohapatra who chaired the meeting has directed to strengthen enforcement mechanisms for implementation of Cigarette and Other Tobacco Product Act ( COTPA)-2003.

It has been decided to empower ASI police as the notified enforcement authority under the Act.Presently,the Sub Inspector of Police and above rank officers, Drug Inspectors, Food Safety Officers are functioning as enforcement authority.

The Odisha government has banned production, consumption and sale of all tobacco related products in 2013 and since then about 34,600 violators have been fined up to March, 2014.

The capital city of Bhubaneswar has been declared smoke-free since Ocober,2010.The state government has also strengthened the enforcement activities in Khurdha, Kalahandi and Ganjam districts.

The Tobacco Control Programme has been integrated with Aids Control society, Non-Communicable Disease programme, Mental Health Programme and Revised national Tuberculosis Control Programme.

The meeting suggested for a rise in the tax on the tobacco related products to minimize its production and consumption.

The Best Practices for prohibition of tobacco consumption applied in states like Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu were discussed in the meeting.

It was decided in the meeting to take up the measures like government servants declaring not to consume tobacco, no selling of tobacco products near hospitals and schools, state enacting the Smoking and Spitting Act, Authorization of enforcement officials at district, municipal, block and village levels, Intensive media campaign and Tobacco free guidelines for issuing sanitary certificates to schools. 

5th raid in month reveals more stale food

Stale food that was seized from restaurants in Alappuzha town on Wednesday.

Restaurants in the town were raided for the fifth time in a month on Wednesday. The previous raids were found to have had little effect with authorities finding stale food from eateries yet again.

Raids were conducted by the health wing of the Alappuzha municipality in 15 restaurants; stale items were seized from most of them. These include outlets situated at the Alappuzha beach, near the Alappuzha railway station and Vellakinar. The items seized included rice, fish curry, chicken and vegetable dishes, and stale oil with many of them found to be many weeks old.

Health Inspectors K.N. Harish, Junior Health Inspectors P. Sandesh, Sumesh Pavithran and C. Ajayakumar were among those who led the raids. According to officials, selling stale food could attract fines up to Rs. 25,000 and also suspension of the particular restaurant’s license.

However, criticisms have been raised from various quarters that letting errant restaurant owners go with light punishments have led to many having scant regard for flouting basic food and hygienestandards set by the Food Safety and Standards Act.

There is growing call to impose stringent actions against those found to violate such norms.

Safe food zones planned

District Collector Biju Prabhakar on Wednesday announced the decision to set up safe food zones that will supply vegetables cultivated without using pesticides and hygienic meat products in the city.

The zones will come up first at the World Market at Anayara and at Nedumangad before Onam. Subsequently, they will be extended to all government offices in the city.

The government undertakings will procure vegetables grown organically and supply to the food zones.

Caffeine's safety concerns increase with energy drinks gaining popularity

New questions regarding the safety of caffeine for consumers has been recently raised as the caffeine-containing energy drinks have surged in popularity.

However, according to a June 23rd panel discussion at the 2014 Institute of Food Technologists (IFT)Annual Meeting & Food Expo in New Orleans there is a rich database of health evidence that had confirmed the safety of caffeine for consumers at current levels of exposure.

But the interaction of caffeine with the myriad of other ingredients that are found in many energy drinks is still unknown. Caffeine cleared out all the concerns over 30 years ago with extensive research for possible links to birth defects in animals and cardiovascular disease in humans.

James Coughlin, Ph.D. of Coughlin & Associates said that according to them the safety issues were put to bed in the 80s but today concerns are being raised because no one has gone back to look at the literature and there has been a lot of bad science related to caffeine that is fueling concerns.

In 2013, the U.S. Congress pressed the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to look harder at the safety of caffeine and so they sponsored an Institute of Medicine scientific workshop which focused on the need to identify vulnerable populations that might be at risk from increased caffeine exposure and to pinpoint research gaps that needed to be filled.

James C Griffiths, Ph.D said that CRN believes that no new regulations are necessary concerning caffeine-containing products, since there is overwhelming scientific evidence demonstrating its safety but they are waiting to see what the FDA is going to do.

JMC CONTINUES DRIVE AGAINST FOOD ADULTERATION, POLYTHENE

15 kg food destroyed, Rs 12,600 fine realized

Jammu, June 25: In continuation of its drive against food/milk adulteration, smoking in public places, Gutka and polythene carry bags, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today destroyed 15 kg of stale cooked food and seized about 18 kg of polythene carry bags besides realizing a fine of Rs 12,600 from the defaulters at different places across the city. 

The team of Health & Sanitation Wing of the JMC under the supervision of Dr. Mohd Saleem Khan, Health Officer, on the directions of Commissioner, inspected various food establishments like milk shops and milk vendors, hotels, restaurants, provisional stores, food stalls, sabzi vendors, fruit juice corners / vendors, tea stalls, ice cream corners, etc. at Bikram Chowk, Residency Road, Maheshpura Chowk, Bakshi Nagar, Railway Station, Kunjwani, Gangyal, Preet Nagar, Narwal, Nanak Nagar and their adjoining areas across Jammu City.

During the drive, 150 pouches of Pan Parag and Suhana brand Gutka were seized from the shopkeepers and vendors near T.B. Hospital area and Government Medical College Hospital (GMC&H) area. 

The defaulters were strictly warned not to sell the banned items in future otherwise, strict action shall be initiated against them under rules. The team also booked 06 under COTP Act 2003 and a fine of Rs. 800/- was realized as penalty from the defaulters. The citizens were also advised not to smoke in the public places as it is injurious not only to their health but to that of others also. 

About 15 kg of stale cooked food was also destroyed by the team on the spot which was found to be not fit for human consumption. The food business operators were also directed not to sell any type of unhygienic food not conforming to prescribed quality and standards. 

The JMC warned that strict action under Food Safety & Standards Act 2006 shall be taken against those found selling unhygienic food. The Health Officer also appealed to all the food business operators to apply / get renewed their food license before 04th of August 2014, otherwise action under rules shall be initiated against the defaulters.

Besides this, the team also seized about 18 kg of polythene carry bags. A fine of Rs. 11800 was also imposed on the defaulters. The JMC also requested the people not to use the polythene carry bags and cooperate it in making Jammu City free of polythene in this rainy season.

Next time at the ration shop, the owner may just take your photograph

The photographs will be cross-checked with the Food and Civil Supplies Department’s database. If the shop-owner is found to have sold produce to bogus beneficiaries, he will face action.

Next time a customer enters a ration shop, the shop-owner might just ask him to wait while he uses his cellphone to take his photograph. This is part of a technique called random picture matching and will be used by the Department of Food and Civil Supplies to weed out bogus cards and ineligible beneficiaries in the State.How it works.

The department will maintain a database of eligible beneficiaries. Food Inspectors and other officials will have access to the database.

On the other end, fair price shop-owners have to download an app on their phone, which will suggest, at random, which customer’s photo should be taken. The app will recognise all the members of a beneficiary family and not just the head.

The shop-owners have to take their phones to the tashildar’s office at the end of every month. The photographs will then be cross-checked with the database. If the shop-owner is found to have sold produce to bogus beneficiaries, he (shop-owner) will face action, which will include withholding of his allotment for the next month.

This is among several technological tools that the department will use to reduce irregularities, while issuing ration cards and distributing produce such as foodgrains. “We have set in motion the process to start using random picture matching,” Harsha Gupta, Commissioner, Food and Civil Supplies, told The Hindu. “We will help shop-owners buy low-end smartphones and use this application,” he said.

The second important intervention will be the convergence of data from various departments to weed out ineligible ration card holders.

The Food and Civil Supplies Department will cross-verify its database of BPL households with the databases of beneficiaries of Revenue Department’s social security schemes and of the Agriculture Department’s subsidy schemes.

“We will cross-check our household data with the National Population Register and the Election Commission data. We have already begun consultations with the officials concerned,” Mr. Gupta said.

This will not only help eliminate errors, but also act as third-party verification of the Food and Civil Supplies Department’s database, according to him.

The department will also begin using lorries fitted with GPS and GPRS devices to monitor their movement. “We will have level indicators inside kerosene lorries to monitor the quantity being carried. We will also have digital weighing scales for lorries that leave warehouses,” he said.

Banned tobacco products seized from retail shops

About Rs.50,000 worth of banned tobacco products such as gutka and paan were seized from various shops in and around the Chathram Bus Stand in the city by Food Safety officials here on Tuesday.

The checks covered a large number of petty shops, sweat meat stalls and juice shops around the bus stand.

About 15 Food Safety officers led by A.Ramakrishnan, Designated Officer, TN Food Safety and Drug Administration (Food Wing),Tiruchi, conducted the checks.

The officials also seized some quantity of soft drinks and butter milk sachets which had no proper labelling at some of the shops.

About 25 kg of mangoes, which were being ripened using calcium carbide stones, by a roadside vendor was also seized during the raid.

The officials also collected samples of juices and sweat meats to be sent for analysis to check for use of colouring agents.

The officials said that the checks could continue in the coming days across the city.

Over 3,000 kg of adulterated tea powder seized

Food safety officers raid a unit that was allegedly packing adulterated tea at Udayampalayam near Ganapathy in Coimbatore on Wednesday. (right) An adulterant that was being mixed with dust tea. 

Food safety officials seized over 3,000 kg of adulterated tea powder during a raid in a storage godown at Udayampalayam near here on Wednesday. Around 1,500 kg of adulterants were also seized by the officials who sealed the godown.

A team lead by Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department (Food Safety Wing) Designated Officer R. Kathiravan, conducted the raid, which was part of a campaign against adulterated food and tobacco products.

According to Dr. Kathiravan, the operation involved purchase of tea powder through auctions at The Nilgiris, Valparai and Kerala after which it was mixed with adulterants. They were later packed with stickers of some local brands and supplied to shops in Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Rajapalayam and Virudhunagar.

Samples of the tea powder have been sent for testing to the Government Food Safety Laboratory. Legal action might be initiated based on the results.

In similar raids conducted in bakeries and road-side shops across the district on Tuesday, 183 kg of banned tobacco products and 50 kg of adulterated tea powder were seized.

The food safety officers who took part in the raided include V. Raveendran, R. Rajendran, K. Sakthivel and M. Madhan Mohan.

All food Business Operators of EKHills and WG Hills can apply online for certificate

Shillong, June 24: The Food Safety and Standards Act,2006 has been implemented throughout the country with effect from 5th August 2011, for laying down science based standart for articles of food and to regulate its manufacture, storage, Distribution sale and Import, to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption and matter connected therewith.

Under the act rules and regulation it is mandatetory for all food business operafor (FBO) to obtain LicenseRegistration certificate. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has created a Centralized Online System for FBO – License, Registratbn for use across the country, with assistance from National Institute of Smart Government (NISG), Hyderabad.

The Commissioner of Food Safety, (Health & Family velfare Deptt) Government of Meghalaya, has adopted the centralized Online System of Licensing, Registration for Food Business Operators as a pilot project for the district ofEast Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills District from today the 24th June 2014.

All food Business Operators of East Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills Districts can now avail of the services for licensing, /Registration by logging onto the website: http:www.fssai.gov.in .This online FoodLicensingIRegistration System (FLRS) enables the Food Business Operators, at their comfort, to check for eligibility, apply for License/Registration, appropriate amount of fees to be paid, upload supporting documents, track the status of their applications, LicenseIRegistration status, and schedule of inspections and receive alerts on the status and renewals of License & Registration.

Food Business Operators may create their online user accounts and continue to receive SMS, e-mail alerts from the Authority. Manual applications will not be accepted by the authority from the Food Business Operators for License/Registration in the Districts of East Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills Districts from 24th June 2014 onwards.

All the Food Business Operators located in these Districts are requested to avail the online services and comply with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Unsafe beverages, banned tobacco products seized

TRICHY: A raid by officials of the food safetywing at shops around Chatram bus stand in thecity brought to light the sale of sub-standard cool drinks and buttermilk. The raid also yielded banned tobacco products from these shops.

A team of officials carried out the raid at around 50 shops around the stand which is the hub of buses proceeding to places on the outskirts of Trichy and also to neighbouring districts like Karur.

During the raid officials found 25 bottles of unbranded cool drinks and some packets of buttermilk. Both the items did not bear any name, date of manufacture, date of expiry and other required details.

"We conducted the check as part of regular inspections. We found cool drinks and buttermilkwhich did not have any information about their manufacturer. Vendors said that they don't know about the origin of such cool drinks. We seized the products," said Dr A Ramakrishnan, designated officer, food safety wing.

In Trichy, artificially flavoured juices are in great demand with mostly poor people consuming them. Shops selling such beverages are across the city, though concentrated in dense public placeslike the Central and Chatram bus stands.

Dr Ramakrishnan advised people to be careful while buying packed cool drinks. People should verify the dates of manufacture and expiry before consuming them to avoid any health complications, he said.

Officials are yet to ascertain the quality of the packs seized on Tuesday. Officials took samples of artificially flavoured juices from some shops. These samples will be sent for testing in government laboratory.

The officials warned vendors about penalties if sub-standard beverages are sold.

The raid also exposed the continuing sale of banned tobacco products in the city. The raiding parties seized some tobacco products from a few shops.

Awareness programme on modernization of meat shops

One day awareness programme on modernization of meat shops under the aegis of National Mission on Food Processing (NMFP) 2013-17 was organized by Department of Industries & Commerce in coordination with Health & Family Welfare, Urban development , veterinary & animal husbandry (V&AH) and Kohima Municipal council (KMC) at Zonal council hall here Tuesday.

OSD Industries & Commerce, B. Longkumer, who chaired the programme, in his opening remark, said the modernization of meat shops was very much required and relevant in Nagaland as Nagas were heavy meat eaters, adding that hygienic handling of meat and delivering to the consumers was very important. 

He said this government scheme would be first implemented in Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung and later to other parts of the state.

Longkumer said government would provide grant-in-aid to the slaughterhouse owner and real beneficiaries would be for the consumers as it concerned hygiene.

He urged the general public to check the proper implementation of the centre scheme in the state.

Industries & commerce deputy director Khrielie Peseyie said majority of the population in India consumed meat from the traditional meat shops where individual butchers slaughter sheep/goats for sale of meat in small quantities throughout the day. 

Highlighting objectives of the scheme, he said it was aimed at improving the overall hygiene in the meat shops by providing basic infrastructure and equipment and also ensure food safety rules and regulation compliances as per FSS Act 2006 and caters to public health concerns as a whole. 

He said modernization of meat shops would also help protect and sustain the livelihoods of people involved and it would improve the competitiveness in the supply of wholesale meat vis-à-vis the development of new retail chains.

Peseyie also highlighted the eligibility, receipts of applications, civil structure items, and ineligible civil works in machinery/equipment/mechanical items and pattern of release of grant. 

He said under this scheme, North East states including Nagaland, the quantum of assistance from the government would be 75% of the cost of machinery/equipment and technical civil works (TCW) and other eligible items.

FPI cell D.o.I & C Kuko Nuh highlighted prototypes of modernized meat shops, FPI cell D.o.I & C Mhasiphizo Khezhie spoke on machinery and equipments for modernized meat shops with power-point presentation, V&AH deputy director Dr. Hevito Shohe spoke on quality of livestock and meat establishment and maintenance of meat shops.

FSO Kohima Kezhangulie spoke on Food Safety and Standard Act (FSSA) 2006 its definition, standards, food regulatory authorities, licensing and registration and penalties.

Earlier, KMC administrator Lithrongla Tongpi delivered welcome address, interactive session was held with the participants and vote of thanks was proposed by Akhrie –a Mor member KCCI. 

Programme was attended by around 50 persons which included colony wards chairmen, GBs, NAYO, colony youth leaders, butchers union, KCCI, KMC, entrepreneurs and others.

திருவள்ளூர் நகராட்சிக்கு உட்பட்ட கடைகளில், அரசால் தடை செய்யப்பட்ட போதை பொருட்களான குட்கா, பான்பராக் போன்றவற்றை நகராட்சி அதிகாரிகள் நேற்று திடீர் சோதனை நடத்தி பறிமுதல் செய்தனர்.

திருவள்ளூர் நகரில் உள்ள கடைகளில் தமிழக அரசால் தடை செய்யப்பட்ட போதை பொருட்களான குட்கா, பான்பராக் போன்றவை தடையின்றி விற்கப்படுவதாக நகராட்சி ஆணையர் அட்சயாவுக்கு புகார்கள் வந்தன. இதையடுத்து நகராட்சி சுகாதார அதிகாரிகள், நேற்று பஜார் வீதி, சி.வி.நாயுடு சாலை, மோதிலால் தெரு உட்பட பல்வேறு பகுதிகளில் உள்ள கடைகளில் திடீர் சோதனை மேற்கொண்டனர். அப்போது விற்பனைக்காக வைத்திருந்த போதை வஸ்துகளை பறிமுதல் செய்து கொண்டு சென்றனர்..

இப்படி, நகராட்சி அதிகாரிகளால் பறிமுதல் செய்து கொண்டு செல்லப்படும் பொருட்களை நகராட்சி ஊழியர்கள் முறைப்படி எரித்தோ அல்லது பூமிக்கடியில் புதைத்தோ அழிக்க வேண்டும். ஆனால் அங்கு பணிபுரியும் ஊழியர்கள், இப்பொருட்களை மீண்டும் கடைகளுக்கு கொண்டு சென்று குறைந்த விலையில் விற்பதாக நகர மக்கள் கூறுகின்றனர்.

எனவே, பறிமுதல் செய்யப்படும் போதை பொருட்களை முறைப்படி அழிக்க நகராட்சி அதிகாரிகள் நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும் என கோரிக்கை எழுந்துள்ளது.

Food Safety Officials conducted raids atbakeries and roadside shops across the district on Tuesday as part of a drive against adulteratedtea powder and sale of banned tobacco products.

According to Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department (Food Safety Wing), R. Kathiravan, 183 kilograms of banned tobacco products, valued at Rs. 55,000, were seized from the roadside shops.

They would be destroyed at the CorporationCompost Yard at Vellalore.

Around 50 kilograms of adulterated tea powder were also seized from the bakeries.

These seized products were immediately destroyed with the help of local bodies.

A total of 150 shops were inspected by six teams each comprising four food safety officers.

Inspection

Of the shops inspected, as many as 55 were found to be selling banned tobacco products.

Shops at Ganapathy, Gandhipuram, Perur, Kinathukadavu, Mettupalayam and Pollachi were inspected.

Dr. Kathiravan said that such action would continue as part of the Government’s drive against unsafe food and sale of banned tobacco products.

பேசின்பிரிட்ஜ் அருகே, வண்ணாரப்பேட்டை போலீசார் நேற்று அதிகாலை வாகன சோதனையில் ஈடுபட்டனர். அப்போது, அவ்வழியாக வந்த ஒரு லாரியை மடக்கி சோதனையிட்டபோது, அதில் ஏராளமான பண்டல்கள் இருந்தன. அதுபற்றி கேட்டபோது பிஸ்கெட் பாக்கெட் என டிரைவர் தெரிவித்தார். சந்தேகத்தின் பேரில், போலீசார் ஒரு பண்டலை பிரித்து பார்த்தபோது, அதில் தமிழக அரசால் தடை செய்யப்பட்ட புகையிலை இருப்பது தெரிந்தது.

அனைத்து பண்டல்களையும் சோதனை செய்ததில், 4.5 டன் எடை கொண்ட புகையிலை இருப்பது தெரிந்தது. இதன் மதிப்பு 15 லட்சம் என கூறப்படுகிறது. இதையடுத்து, புகையிலையுடன் லாரியை பறிமுதல் செய்த போலீசார், டெல்லியை சேர்ந்த லாரி டிரைவர் சத்தம்லால் (30) என்பவரை பிடித்து விசாரித்தனர்.

அதில், டெல்லியில் இருந்து சவுகார்பேட்டையில் உள்ள ஒரு குடோனுக்கு இந்த புகையிலை பொருட்களை கொண்டு வந்தது தெரிந்தது. பறிமுதல் செய்த புகையிலையை, மாவட்ட உணவு பாதுகாப்பு ஆய்வாளர்களடம் போலீசார் ஒப்படைத்தனர். அவற்றை கைப்பற்றிய அதிகாரிகள், கொடுங்கையூர் குப்பை கிடங்கில் ராட்சத பள்ளம் தோண்டி அழித்தனர். பிடிபட்டுள்ள டிரைவரிடம் விசாரித்து வருகின்றனர்.

சென்னையில் இருந்து சேலத்திற்கு.ரயிலில் பார்சலாக கடத்தி வந்த 1.20 லட்சம் குட்கா பறிமுதல்

சென்னை யில் இருந்து சேலத்திற்கு ரயி லில் பார்சலில் கடத்தி வரப்பட்ட 1.20 லட்சம் மதிப்புள்ள தடை செய்யப்பட்ட போதை பொருளான குட்க வை ஆர்பிஎப் போலீ சார் பறிமுதல் செய்தனர். சிக்கிய வாலிபரிடம் தீவிர விசார ணை நடத்தி வருகின்றனர்.

தமிழகத்தில் தடை செய்யப்பட்ட புகையிலை பொருட்களான பான்பராக், குட்கா போன்றவை ஆங்கா ங்கே கடைகளில் பதுக்கி வைக்கப்பட்டு விற்பனை செய்யப்படுகிறது. இந்த போதை புகையிலை பொரு ட்களை ஒரு கும்பல், ரயில்கள் மூலம் பார்சலில் முக்கிய நகரங்களுக்கு அனுப்பி வருவது கடந்த 3 மாதத்திற்கு முன்பு கண்டறியப்பட்டது. அப்போது சென்னையில் இருந்து கோவை மற்றும் ஈரோட்டிற்கு அனுப்பி வைக்கப்பட்ட 5 லட்சம் மதிப்புள்ள புகையிலை பொருட் களை ரயில்வே போலீசார் பறிமுதல் செய்தனர்.

இதையடுத்து அனைத்து ரயில் நிலையங்களிலும் சந்தேகப்படும்படி வரும் பார்சல் களை ரயில்வே பாதுகாப்பு படையினர் தீவிரமாக கண்காணித்து வருகின்றனர். சேலம் ஜங்ஷன் ரயில் நிலையத்திற்கு நேற்று, சென்னை சென்ட்ரலில் இருந்து கோவை செல்லும் கோவை எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் ரயிலில் வந்த 27 பண்டல்கள் மீது சந்தேகப்பட்டு பாதுகாப்பு படை யினர் தனியாக எடுத்து வைத்தனர். அந்த பண்டல்களை சோதனையிட்ட போது, தடை செய்யப்பட்ட புகையிலை பொருட்களான குட்கா இருந்தது தெரிந்தது.

இதையடுத்து அந்த பண்டல்களை எடுக்க வருபவரை பிடிக்க பாதுகாப்பு படையினர் தயாராக இருந்தனர். அப்போது சேலம் செவ்வாய்பேட்டையில் இருந்து ராஜ் குமார் (45) என்பவர் பண்டல்களை எடுக்க வந் தார். அவரை இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் பொன்னு சாமி, காவலர்கள் சரவணன், தனசேகரன், லட்சுமிநாராயணன், ராதாமணி ஆகியோர் மடக்கி பிடித்தனர்.

பின்னர் அவரிடம் நடந்த விசாரணையில், சென்னை யில் இருந்து தடை செய்யப்பட்ட புகையிலை பொருட் களையும், பாக்குகளையும் மொத்தமாக தனது ஏஜென்சி பெயரில் அனுப்பி வைக்க கூறுவதும், அங்கிருந்து ஒரு கும்பல் மொத்தமாக அனுப்பி வைப்பது வாடிக்கையாக நடந்துள்ளது தெரியவந்தது.

இதையடுத்து 27 பண்டல்களையும் பறிமுதல் செய்து தனித்தனியாக சோதனையிட்டனர். அதில் 12 பண்டல்களில் போதை புகையிலையான குட்கா வும், மற்ற 15 பண்டல்களில் பாக்குகளும் இருந்தன. இதை பாதுகாப்பு படை உதவி கமிஷனர் கோவிந்தராஜூம் பார்வையிட்டு, விசாரணை நடத்தினார்.

இதையடுத்து சேலம் மாவட்ட உணவு பாதுகாப்பு நியமன அலுவலர் அனுராதாவுக்கு தகவல் கொடுத்தனர். அவர், அதிகாரிகளுடன் வந்து 1.20 லட்சம் மதிப்புள்ள குட்காவை பறிமுதல் செய்தார். இதுபற்றி நியமன அலுவலர் அனுராதா கூறுகையில், “போதை புகையிலை பொருட்கள் பறிமுதல் செய்யப்படுகிறது. மற்ற பாக்குகளை திரும்ப ஒப்படைக்கிறோம். புகை யிலை பொருளை கடத்தி வந்தவர் மீது உரிய சட்டப்படி நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கவுள்ளோம்,“ என்றார்.

ஜங்ஷனில் பார்சல் மூலம் வந்த போதை வஸ்துகள் பறிமுதல்

சேலம்: சேலம் ஜங்ஷன் ரயில் நிலையத்துக்கு, பார்சல் மூலம் வந்த, ஒரு லட்சத்து, 20 ஆயிரம் ரூபாய் மதிப்பிலான போதை வஸ்துகள் பறிமுதல் செய்யப்பட்டது. தமிழகத்தில், பான்பராக், ஹான்ஸ் உள்ளிட்ட போதை வஸ்துக்கள் விற்பனை செய்வதற்கு தடை விதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஆனாலும், வெளி மாநிலங்களில் இருந்து ஏஜன்டுகள் மூலமாக, தொடர்ந்து போதை வஸ்துகள், தமிழகத்தில் இறக்குமதி செய்யப்பட்டு வருகிறது.

ராஜ்குமார் அந்த பார்சலை வாங்கியுள்ளார். அதில், தமிழகத்தில் தடை செய்யப்பட்ட போதை வஸ்துக்கள் வந்திருப்பாக, ரயில்வே பாதுகாப்பு படை போலீஸாருக்கு தகவல் கிடைத்தது.

ரயில்வே பாதுகாப்பு படை இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் பொன்னுசாமி, போலீஸார் தனசேகரன், சரவணன், ராஜாமணி உள்ளிட்டோர், ராஜ்குமாரிடம் இருந்து பார்சலை வாங்கி பிரித்துள்ளனர். அதில், ஒரு லட்சத்து, 20 ஆயிரம் ரூபாய் மதிப்பிலான போதை வஸ்துக்கள் இருப்பது தெரிய வந்தது. ஆர்.பி.எஃப்., போலீஸார், போதை வஸ்துகளை பறிமுதல் செய்தனர்.

பிடிப்பட்ட ராஜ்குமார், உணவு கடத்தல் தடுப்பு பிரிவு போலீஸார் வசம் ஒப்படைக்கப்பட்டார். சென்னையில் இருந்து வந்த கூரியர் அலுவலகத்தில், அங்கிருந்து ராஜ்குமாருக்கு போதை வஸ்துகளை பார்சல் அனுப்பியவர் யார் என்பது குறித்து, ரயில்வே பாதுகாப்பு படை போலீஸார் விசாரித்து வருகின்றனர்.

Sago unit sealed

Officials sealed a sago unit functioning at Nattamangalam in Ayothiyapattinam block on Tuesday after the unit was found to be using banned chemicals for whitening tapioca starch.

During an inspection by a team led by T. Anuradha, District Designated Officer, Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, it was found that wet tapioca starch was being purchased from a supplier in Attur, and was mixed with chalk powder, rice flour, and maize starch.

They found that 660 litres of bleaching liquids, and 90 litres of sulphuric acid were being used to whiten the starch.

Officials destroyed the chemicals, and took samples of the product for laboratory test.

கல்மாவு, ஈரமாவு சேர்த்து ஜவ்வரிசி உற்பத்தி செய்த மேலும் ஒரு ஜவ்வரிசி ஆலைக்கு ‘சீல்‘ வைத்து உணவு பாதுகாப்புத்துறை நியமன அலுவலர் அதிரடி நடவடிக்கை எடுத்தார்.

சேலம் ஜாகீர் ரெட்டிப்பட்டி பகுதியில் உள்ள ஜவ்வரிசி ஆலையில் கடந்த 20-ந் தேதி, சேலம் உணவு பாதுகாப்பு நியமன அலுவலர் டாக்டர் அனுராதா நேரில் சென்று ஆய்வு நடத்தினார். அப்போது மரவள்ளிகிழங்கு மாவில் ரசாயன பவுடர் மற்றும் மக்காச்சோள மாவு கலந்து ஜவ்வரிசி தயாரிப்பது கண்டறியப்பட்டது. மேலும் அந்த ஆலை உரிமம் பெறாமல் நடத்தப்பட்டதும் தெரியவந்தது.
