Mapusa: Unsafe food products, weighing at over one tonne, being transported from Belagavi to the Goan markets, were seized by food safety officers attached to the food and drugs administration (FDA) on Saturday.

The food item, a hot favourite among children, has a huge market in Goa.
FDA had booked the said product in the past, too, and the court had imposed a fine of 2.5 lakh on the accused. The raid was conducted under the guidance of FDA director Salim Veljee, by officials Rajiv Korde, Amit Mandrekar, Richard Noronha, Madhav Kavlekar and Sainath Mandrekar.
FDA officials said that the possibility of the use of detergents in the making of such food items cannot be ruled out and that samples have been taken for analysis. Action will be initiated as per provisions of the law, they said.
