Food business operators asked to obtain licence
Food business operators like manufacturers, storage, transporters, retailers, marketers and distributors were asked to register themselves with the Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department and obtain licence for running their business.
A press release said that as per Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses), Regulations 2011, it is mandatory that all food business operators in the district should register with the district designated officer and continue their business.
A total of 27 food safety officers were appointed in the unions in the district and operators in the respective areas can submit their applications to them.
Food operators whose annual turnover does not exceed Rs. 12 lakh should pay Rs. 100 as registration charge and obtain the licence, while operators whose annual turnover is more than Rs. 12 lakh should pay a fee of Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 5,000, the release added.
Animal Identification and Traceability System
The details of the implementation strategy suggested by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for Animal Identification and Traceability System (AI&TS) as per the Allocation of Business Rules is Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (DADF), New Delhi.
The DADF has prepared AI&TS and EFC meeting with Ministry of Finance was on 5th August, 2016 and after approval of EFC, the proposal would be sent to Cabinet for Approval.
At first phase, the cattle and buffaloes would be covered under AI&TS list for identification; and Monitoring of Artificial Insemination and birth of calf.
The Livestock Health and Disease Control (LH&DC) scheme envisages issuing of animal health card for which the DADF is providing financial assistance as an activity under FMDCP and PPRCP to maintain record of vaccination of these animals which would tackle the problem of outbreak of livestock diseases in addition of breeding activities proposed under AI&TS.
