கோபி தினசரி மார்க்கெட் பகுதியில் இரண்டு இடங்களில் தடை செய்யப்பட்ட புகையிலை மற்றும் குட்கா வகைகள் விற்பனை செய்யப்படுவதாக கோபி சப்கெலக்டர் சந்திரசேகர் சாகமுரிக்கு பல்வேறு புகார்கள் வந்தன. அதனடிப்படையில் குறிப்பிட்ட கடை களில் சோதனை நடத்த மாவட்ட உணவு பாதுகாப்பு அலுவலர்களுக்கு சப்கலெக்டர் உத்தரவிட்டார்.
அதைத்தொடர்ந்து, மாவட்ட உணவு பாதுகாப்பு நியமன அலுவலர் கருணநிதி தலைமையில் உணவு பாதுகாப்பு அலுவலர்கள் கண்ணன், முருகேசன், மணி, மனோகரன், கதிர்வேல் உள்ளிட்ட அதிகாரிகள் அடங்கிய குழுவி னர் பூ மார்க்கெட் பகுதியில் உள்ள மொத்த விற்பனை கடை ஒன்றில் சோதனை நடத்தினர். அந்த கடையில் சுமார் 10 ஆயிரம் ரூபாய் மதிப்பிலான புகையிலை மற்றும் குட்கா வகைகள் இருப்பது கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டு அவ ற்றை பறிமுதல் செய்தனர். அதைத்தொட ர்ந்து அருகில் இருந்த மற்றொரு கடையில் சோதனை நடத்த சென்ற போது கடையை பூட்டிவிட்டு கடை உரிமையளர் வெளியேறியிருப்பது தெரியவந்தது. அதைத்தொடர்ந்து மார்க்கெட் கடை உரிமையாளர்கள் சங்கத்தலைவர் துரை மற்று ம் மற்ற கடை உரிமையாளர்களின் முன்னிலையில் அதிகாரிகள் கடையின் பூட்டை உடைத்து உள்ளே சென்று பார்த்த போது மூட் டை மூட்டையாக புகையி லை மற்றும் குட்கா வகைகள் இருப்பது தெரியவந்தது. அவற்றை பறிமுதல் செய்த அதிகாரிகள் இதுகுறித்து சப்கலெக்டருக்கு தகவல் தெரிவித்தனர். அங்கு வந்த சப் கலெக் டர் கடை உரிமையாளர்கள் மீது வழக்கு பதிவு செய்ய உத்தரவிட்டார். அதைத்தொடர்ந்து பறிமுத ல் செய்யப்பட்ட புகையிலை மற்று ம் குட்கா வகைகளை நகரா ட்சி குப்பை கிடங்கில் தீ வத்து அழிக்கப்பட்டது.

 மேட்டூர் நகராட்சிப் பகுதியில் செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை, சேலம் மாவட்ட உணவுப் பாதுகாப்பு துறை அதிகாரிகள் திடீர் சோதனை நடத்தினர். பேருந்து நிலையத்தில் உள்ள தேநீர் கடைகளில் கலப்பட டீத் தூள் பயன்படுத்துவது கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது. 

தேநீர் கடைகளில் இருந்து சுமார் 10 கிலோ கலப்பட டீத் தூள் கைப்பற்றப்பட்டது.

சதுரங்காடி பகுதியில் சம்பத்சிங் என்பவரது கடையில் காலாவதியான சிப்ஸ் பாக்கெட்டுகள் ஏராளமாக கைப்பற்றப்பட்டன. 

 அதேபோல, குருராமன், லட்சுமனநாதன் ஆகியோரது மொத்த வியாபாரக் கடைகளில் விற்பனைக்குத் தடை செய்யப்பட்ட புகையிலைப் பொருள்கள் கைப்பற்றப்பட்டன. இவற்றின் மதிப்பு ரூ.50 ஆயிரம் இருக்கும். 

இதைத் தொடர்ந்து, பிற்பட்டோர் நலத் துறையின் மாணவர் விடுதி, மாணவிகள் விடுதிகளிலும் ஆய்வுகள் நடைபெற்றன.

 அப்போது, விடுதிகளில் உள்ள பொருள்கள் இருப்பு வைக்கும் அறைகள் அசுத்தமாக இருப்பது கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டு, அவற்றை சுத்தப்படுத்த உத்தரவிடப்பட்டது.

Take steps to enforce food safety Act: HC to Chief Secy

Expressing dissatisfaction over with the compliance report submitted by the government, the J&K High Court has directed the Chief Secretary to take “meaningful” steps for implementing the provisions of the Food Safety Standards Act, 2006, in the state.
The direction was issued by a division Bench of the High Court on Monday while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a direction commanding the respondents to implement the Food Safety Standards Act, 2006, and the Food Safety and Standards Rules, 2011.
On October 7, the High Court in its orders had observed that there is a complete go-bye to the provisions of the Act and the Rules as revealed by the procedure adopted for taking samples and testing of the stock in respect of food which has been found misbranded or adulterated.
Observing that there is no proper mechanism to check adulteration in the state, the court had directed the Chief Secretary to take a review of the ground realities and accordingly file a comprehensive report showing compliance of the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the Food Safety and Standards Rules, 2011 and regulations.
“Though the Chief Secretary had filed the compliance report as directed earlier, however the Bench was not satisfied with it. It has now directed him to take meaningful steps for implementing the provisions of the Food Safety Standards Act, rules and regulations,” said Syed Tassaduq Khawaja, one of the petitioner counsels advocate.
He said the Chief Secretary had been directed to file a fresh compliance report in this regard by the next hearing.
What the PIL says
The PIL had sought court directions commanding the respondents to implement the Food Safety Standards Act, 2006, and the Food Safety and Standards Rules, 2011
It had been submitted that the non-implementation of the Act and Rules by the state government was a grave issue and there is need of for a serious relook into the issue to check adulteration of food items and eatables The government has often come under criticism for lack of seriousness on the implementation of the Food Safety and Standards Act in the state.

Rats, cockroaches found in hostel storeroom

When officials of Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI) raided the men’s hostel for Scheduled Castes students in Mettur on Tuesday, what they found was rats and cockroaches in the stocked items.

A team led by T. Anuradha, District Designated Officer, Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department inspected the hostel and found rats and cockroaches roaming freely on the goods.

Bad odour emanated from the kitchen because of poor maintenance.

Officials asked the cook to clean the storeroom and maintain cleanliness in the kitchen. The warden was asked to maintain hygienic conditions.

Earlier, based on a complaint from people that rotten non-vegetarian items were sold in hotels, the team raided two hotels in the bus stand area and seized five kg of chicken and destroyed them.

They warned the hoteliers to maintain hygiene and serve quality food to customers. The team seized 12 kg of adulterated tea power, 50 packets of expired chips, and banned gutka and panmasala items.

The shopkeepers were warned of action if they continued to sell the banned and adulterated items.

2.5 tonnes of banned tobacco products seized at Sowcarpet in Chennai

CHENNAI: The Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration seized 2.5 tonnes of banned tobacco products at Sowcarpet here on Tuesday.
The seizure has exposed that the sale of gutka and pan masala products are rampant across the city despite the crackdown on it by the department. Several shops in the city continue to sell these banned products at inflated prices.
Based on a tip-off, officials raided three private godown at Sowcarpet and found several bags of banned tobacco products.
District food safety officer S Lakshmi Narayan said that the seized tobacco products from two godowns were worth of Rs 8 lakh. "We have destroyed the products in Kodungaiyur dumpyard and also served notices to them".
There has been a spurt in smuggling of chewing tobacco products from neighbouring states after the state imposed a ban on the products. Several tonnes of tobacco products were seized by the department since the state government banned the sale of gutka and pan masala in May, sources said.
The large commercial establishments continue to store such banned products and selling through various retail shops at exorbitant rates.
"There is a huge demand for the products in Chennai and other parts of the state. So we have decided to intensify the raids across the city to confiscate such banned products" said Lakshmi Narayan.
Health experts say migrant labourers constitute the major chunk of pan masala users in Chennai and that such products are among the major cause for the increasing incidence of mouth cancer.

EOW begins preliminary inquiry against NCDEX

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW), on Tuesday, said it had initiated preliminary inquiry against the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), following a case filed for alleged non-delivery of black pepper.
“We have received the complaint against NCDEX and begun preliminary inquiry against the exchange for mineral oil content in black pepper and pending contract,” EOW Additional Commissioner of Police Rajvardhan Sinha told reporters here.
Kalmirch Vyapari Association (KVA) Vice-President Vinit Chopda told PTI that the organisation lodged a complaint against NCDEX with EOW, 8-10 days ago for non-delivery of black pepper.
He alleged the NCDEX had stored in its accredited warehouses black pepper contaminated with mineral oil and burnt diesel oil. “The adulteration had been confirmed by the Food and Safety Standards Authority of India — FSSAI in Kerala,” he claimed.
In its response against the complaint, NCDEX said it had so far not received any query or correspondence from any police authority.
“It appears that the complaint has been filed by Kalimirch Vyapari Association (KVA) comprising several entities. “The FSSA has sealed stocks deposited in the exchange approved warehouses in response to a complaint filed by Betul Oil for alleged contamination. The order of the Food Safety Commissioner has been stayed by the Kerala High Court and the matter is sub-judice,” NCDEX said in a statement.
