மக்களிடையே குறைந்து வருகிறது மாம்பழ ஆர்வம் கார்பைடு கற்கள் பயன்பாடு எதிரொலி

கார்பைடு கற்களால் பழுக்க வைக்கப்படும் மாம்பழங்களை தொடர்ந்து உண்டால் புற்றுநோய் வருவதற்கு வாய்ப்புள்ளதால், மக்களிடையே மாம்பழம் சாப்பிடும் ஆர்வம் குறைந்து வருகிறது.

முக்கனிகளில் ஒன்றாக மாம்பழம் விளங்குகிறது. தமிழகத்தில் சேலம், ராஜபாளையம், பெரியகுளம், தர்மபுரி, கிருஷ்ணகிரி உள்ளிட்ட இடங்களில் மா சாகுபடி அதிகளவில் உள்ளது. மாம்பழத்தில் மல்கோவா, பங்கனபள்ளி, அல்போன்சா, கிளிமூக்கு, பாம்பே கிரீன், நீலம், பாதாமி, மல்லிகா, ராஸ்புரி, செந்தூரன், கேசர் உள்ளிட்ட ரகங்கள் உள்ளன. மாம்பழத்தில் பல்வேறு மருத்துவ குணங்கள் இருப்பதால், மக்களிடைய விரும்பி சாப்பிடும் பழமாக உள்ளது. ஏப்ரல் முதல் ஜூலை வரை சீசன் என்பதால், தற்போது மாம்பழ விற்பனை நடந்து வருகிறது.

மாம்பழத்தில் அன்டி&ஆக்ஸிடன்ட்கள் நிறைந்துள்ளன. இது புற்றுநோய் எதிர்த்து போராடுவதிலும், சரும சுருக்கத்தை நீக்குவதிலும் சிறந்ததாக விளங்குகிறது. மேலும், மாம்பழத்தில் வைட்டமின் ஏ சத்து அதிகமுள்ளதால், தெளிவான கண் பார்வைக்கு ஏற்றது. மாழ்பழத்தை தொடர்ந்து சாப்பிட்டால், இதயம் மற்றும் ரத்தகுழாய்களில் கெட்ட கொலஸ்ட்ரால் தங்குவதை தடுத்து, உயர் ரத்த அழுத்தம், இதயநோய் ஏற்படாமல் தடுக்கிறது. மாம்பழத்தில் கிளைசீமிக் இன்டெக்ஸ் குறைவாக உள்ளதால், ரத்தத்தில் உள்ள சர்க்கரையின் அளவை கட்டுப்பாட்டுடன் வைக்க உதவுகிறது. இதுபோன்று எண்ணற்ற மருத்துவ குணங்கள் அனைத்தும், இயற்கையாக பழுக்க வைக்கப்பட்ட மாம்பழத்தின் மூலம் கிடைக்கிறது.

மாம்பழத்தினை வைக்கோல் போர் மூலம் இயற்கையாக பழுக்க வைக்க 10 முதல் 15 நாட்கள் பிடிக்கும். ஆனால், வியாபார நோக்குடன், தற்போது மாம்பழத்தினை கார்பைடு கற்கள் மூலம் பழுக்க வைக்கும் போக்கு அதிகரித்து வருகிறது. இம்முறைக்கு இரண்டு அல்லது மூன்று நாட்கள் போதுமானது. க்ஷ

இதனால், மாம்பழத்தில் இயற்கையாக உள்ள மருத்துவ குணங்கள் அனைத்தும் அழிந்து, உடலுக்கு கேடு விளை விக்கும் பொருளாக மாறுகிறது. இதனை தொடர்ந்து சாப்பிடுவதால் உடலில் பல்வேறு நோய்களை ஏற்படுத்துகின்றன.

கார்பைடு மூலம் பழுக்க வைக்கப்பட்ட மாம்பழம் என, பார்த்தவுடன் அறிவதற்கு எந்த முகாந்திரமும் இல்லை என்பதால், உடல் நலன் கருதி பொதுமக்களிடைய மாம்பழம் சாப்பிடும் ஆர்வம் குறைந்து வருகிறது.

இதுகுறித்து மருத்துவர்கள் கூறுகையில், “கால்சியம் கார்பைடு கற்களில் இருந்து வெளிவரும் அசிட்டிலீன் வாயு, மாங்காய்களில் பழுத்தது போன்ற தோற்றத்தை உருவாக்குகின்றது.

இதனை தொடர்ந்து உண்பதால், வயிற்றுபோக்கு, வாந்தி, தீராத தலைவலி, மயக்கம், அல்சர் போன்ற நோய்கள் ஏற்படும். தொடர்ந்து, சாப்பிட்டால் புற்றுநோய் ஏற்படும்.“ என்றனர்.

கார்பைடு கல் மூலம் பழுக்க வைத்த ஒரு டன் மாம்பழங்கள் பறிமுதல்

சிதம்பரத்தில் ரசாயன கல் வைத்து பழுக்க வைத்த ஒரு டன் மாம்பழத்தை உணவு அதிகாரிகள் அதிரடியாக பறிமுதல் செய்துள்ளனர்.

மாம்பழம் சீசன் என்பதால் பழக்கடைகளில் மாம்பழங்கள் விற்பனைக்கு குவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. மாம்பழங்கள் கார்பைடு கல் வைத்து பழுக்க வைக்கப்படுவதாக அதிகாரிகளுக்கு தகவல் கிடைத்தது. இந்நிலையில் கடலூர் மாவட்ட உணவு பாதுகாப்பு துறை அதிகாரி ராஜா, வட்டார அலுவலர்கள், பத்மநாதன், குணசேகரன், பழனிவேல், அருண்மொழி, நகராட்சி சுகாதார ஆய்வாளர் கோபாலகிருஷ்ணன் ஆகியோர் கொண்ட குழுவினர் நேற்று சிதம்பரம் மேலவீதியில் உள்ள பழக்கடைகளில் அதி ரடியாக ஆய்வு நடத்தினர். அப்போது மேலவீதி வணிக வளாகத்தில் இருந்த பழ குடோனில் மாம்பழங்களை பழுக்க வைக்க கார்பைடு கல் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது தெரியவந்தது.

இதையடுத்து 50 ஆயிரம் மதிப்புள்ள ஒரு டன் எடையுள்ள மாம்பழங்களை பறிமுதல் செய்தனர். மேலும் மாம்பழங்களை பழுக்க வைக்க வைத்திருந்த கார்பைடு கல் பாக்கெட்டுகளையும் பறிமுதல் செய்தனர். பறிமுதல் செய்யப்பட்ட மாம்பழங்களை நகராட்சி குப்பை டிராக்டர் மூலம் ஏற்றிச்சென்று குப்பையில் வீசப்பட்டது.

இது குறித்து மாவட்ட உணவு அதிகாரி ராஜா கூறுகையில்: பல இடங்களில் மாம்பழங்களில் ரசாயன கல் வைத்து பழுக்க வைப்பதாக தகவல் வந்துள்ளது. கல் வைத்து பழுக்க வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ள மாம்பழங்களை உண்டால் வாந்தி, தலைவலி, வயிற்றுவலி ஆகியவை ஏற்படும். ஆகையால் மாவட்டம் முழுவதிலும் தீவீர ஆய்வு செய்து கல் வைத்து மாம்பழங்கள் பழுக்கவைக்கப்படுகிறதா? என ஆய்வு செய்யப்படுகிறது என்றார்.

The Supreme Court Monday refused to lift the stay on the Centre’s new legal regime, under which the food regulator has been authorised to issue guidelines requiring manufacturers to take approvals for the products already in the market.

A bench of Justices J S Khehar and C Nagappan declined a plea by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to modify the restraint order passed by the Bombay High Court, which had stayed the advisory issued on the subject.

According to the May 2013 advisory, food products covering a broad spectrum, including “novel foods, functional foods, food supplements, irradiated foods, genetically modified foods, foods for special dietary uses or extracts or concentrates of botanicals, herbs or of animal sources” should apply for product approval.

“After perusing the petition and hearing the arguments, we don’t find any ground to interfere with the interim order and hence the prayer against the impugned order is rejected,” said the bench while adding that the High Court should make all endeavor to expeditiously dispose of the petition.

Appearing for the FSSAI, senior advocate Paras Kuhad pointed out that owing to the blanket stay order, the authority was handicapped in examining any food product. “This order is affecting the entire industry. The entire food safety mechanism is rendered ineffective and the authority cannot verify any food product,” he argued.

Kuhad added that the FSAAI has now decided to extend the deadline for product approval and licensing to August 31 and the manufacturers could avail this remedy without waiting for the outcome of the petition.

The bench however maintained that the High Court order was only an interim order and the validity of the advisory was still to be finally adjudicated. It asked the government to wait for the final order of the court and refused to modify the interim directive.

While hearing petitions filed by Vital Nutraceuticals and Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association against the advisory, a two-judge bench of the Bombay High Court had initially delivered a split verdict on whether the FSSAI had the power to issue guidelines requiring existing manufacturers to take approval for products that are already in the market.

One judge on the bench held that such approval for products that are already in the market was unconstitutional but the other differed and said the right to safe and uncontaminated food was held to be a fundamental right under the Constitution.

The matter was then referred to a larger bench of the High Court, which is seized of the issues pertaining to the legality and validity of the impugned advisory.

Food safety offices soon in all Assembly constituencies

Inspections on eateries to continue

Food safety offices will be opened in all 140 Assembly constituencies by June 30 to strengthen the food safety and standards drive, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar said on Monday.

At a review meeting of the food safety wing here, he directed the Commissioner of Food Safety and the Director of Health Services to conduct continuous inspections on eateries and street food corners and insist on strictly complying with food safety and hygiene standards as the threat of food and waterborne infectious diseases was high during the rainy season.

During an intensive food safety drive across the State as part of the Food Safety Week, the department inspected 917 food businesses and the licences of 27 were suspended for failing to keep necessary safety standards.

Samples of 76 brands of edible oils, 18 brands of milk, and hundreds of samples of mangoes, fruits, and vegetables were collected during the week for testing.

From June 2, special raids would be conducted around schools to prevent the sale of tobacco products, adulterated sweets and candies, and nicotine-laced chewing gum.

Nicotine-laced candies were seized from a shop near a school in Kozhikode on Monday.

Adulterated oil

The food safety wing had also strengthened measures to check the flow of adulterated edible oil from across the border into Kerala. Over 800 tanker lorries carrying oil were checked by officials at the border check-posts in the past two weeks.

Mr. Sivakumar also directed the Food Safety Commissioner to launch strict action against juice shops which are found to be using commercial ice or water of suspect quality.

Eateries come under scanner in Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE: The officials of the Food Safety Kozhikode here have started inspections in the food business outlets in the districts to take stringent actions against those who have found to be violating the norms in the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The move was taken in the wake of receiving complaints about the unhygienic quality of eateries, exorbitant prices being charged by the shop owners other than the displayed ones.

The move aims at ensuring that the food business operators strictly adhere to the food standards of safety, hygiene and quality norms.

The department had conducted inspections at the stationeries, fruit markets, vegetable markets and collected samples of mangoes, vegetables, coconut oils to check the existence of pesticides and adulteration.

The samples have been sent to its lab to carry out tests. The officials have been conducting inspections at the limits of City Corporation, Koyilandy and Vadakara municipalities and seventy four panchayats.

The officials who have been conducting inspections under its squad is mainly giving stress to quality and hygienic concept of food being served by the hotels and manufacturing units of bakeries and to check the exorbitant prices being charged by the shop owners other than the displayed one.

The inspectors are also checking the adulteration of packaged food products .

P Sivadasan, assistant commissioner, food safety Kozhikode said that the officials have conducted inspections at 60 food business outlets comprising bakeries and hotels within a week.

"We have directed the food business operators to close down their shops which include two bakeries and one hotel for dispensing unsafe and substandard food items violating provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. We have directed the food manufacturing units of the bakeries at Pookkad and one in the limits of Koyilandy to stop manufacturing bakery items and asked the hotelier at Naduvannur to stop its service and directed to improve hygiene quality, '' he said.

"The closed down outlets will reopen only after improving hygienic standard at its kitchens,'' he said.

"We have also served notices to many to attend the awareness class organised by the department to create awareness among them and all of them had attended it,'' he said.

"Our next focus will be on shops selling pan masala and other products near the schools ,'' he said.

Officers undergo training on food safety

Kohima: The Food Safety & Standards Authority of India is organizing a five days training programme for AO, DO & Food Safety Officers in the State of Nagaland from June 2 to 6 at the ATI, Kohima. 

Dr. AK Singla, Deputy Director, FSSAI at the inaugural programme highlighted the introduction to training programme. He said FSS Act came into existence in the year 2006 and after much deliberation for 2 more years. Ministry of Health & Family Welfare now oversees the whole affair.

Dr. Neiphi Kire, Principal Director & Addl. Food safety Commissioner, H& FW, Kohima in his address said this is one specific area where the department is lacking behind and stressed on the much needed training for the officials in the State. “With much exploitation in the food market by the businessmen, we are all prey to all kinds of food adulterations and it should be checked with stringent measures at the earliest,” Dr. Kire said.

He also added that at both the district and state level, Food Analysis Wing is in process where samples are collected and sent to the laboratory. However, at present, the wing needs upgradation and only after it is established to a proper set up, the department will be able to implement this Act with more success in the future.

Dr. G Kemp, Director (Health), Health & FW Kohima, Chaired the programme. IEC Bureau, DHFW, Kohima in a press release has informed that the resource persons for the training programme will be a host of Directors, Assistant Directors and Deputy Directors of FSSAI.

Check on tobacco goods near schools

With the aim of making schools tobacco-free, health authorities conducted raids on shops located near schools in the city on Monday.

The health officials, on instructions from the District Collector, raided 716 shops near various schools in the city. About 2,600 packets of cigarettes and 2,000 pan masala packets were seized and destroyed as per rules under the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003. A fine of Rs. 8,300 was collected from the outlets found violating the laws.

The District Medical Officer requested all school authorities to create awareness among students about anti-tobacco laws. DMO Haseena Mohammed, RCH officer Santhakumari, and District Health Officer (Rural) P.N. Sreenivasan led the team of health inspectors and junior health inspectors during the raids.
