JKSJA organises sensitization programme on FSS Act 2006
The working sessions of the sensitization programme were chaired by resource persons including Justice Hasnain Masoodi alongwith Abdul Rashid Malik, Mehmood Pracha and Muhammad Yousuf Akhoon.
The Jammu & Kashmir State Judicial Academy (JKSJA) today organized a two-day sensitization programme on the Food Safety & Standards (FSS) Act 2006 for Judicial Officers, Adjudicating Officers, Designated Officers under Food Safety Act, Food Inspectors.
The sensitization programme, held at J&K State Judicial Academy at Mominabad here, has been organized as part of JKSJA’s efforts to strengthen the judicial and administrative institutions and improve necessary skills and efficiency of all stakeholders of the Justice Delivery System in the State.
The programme was inaugurated by Justice Alok Aradhe, chairman JKSJA in the presence of Justice Hasnain Masoodi, former judge J&K High Court, Abdul Rashid Malik, director JKSJA, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, principal secretary, Health & Medical Education Department (Commissioner Food Safety), Mehmood Pracha, Empanelled Lead Counsel of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and Mohammad Yousuf Akhoon, Presiding Officer Food Safety Appellate Tribunal.
Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Rashid Malik said the programme gives an ample opportunity to feel sensitized and alive towards one’s functions and duties, adding that any inaction or negligence puts lives of millions in peril.
Justice Alok Aradhe, in his special address on the occasion, gave an overview of the sensitization programme, saying that it intends to provide the relevant and practical insights about food safety, standards, food safety management systems and related legal provisions under both the Acts.

In the 1st session, overview and salient feature of the Food Safety & Standards Act 2006 were discussed and deliberated upon, the latter sessions included technicalities in which the participants made presentations on implementation of the Act including the successes, failures, challenges and the way forward for its effective implementation.
On the occasion, the participants shared their experiences whereas the resource persons responded to the questions and issues raised by the participants.
10 quintals spurious Desi ghee seized, samples taken of sweets, eatables
Nawanshahr, October 14, 2017: With a view to ensuring quality of food during the festival season, the Food Team comprising , Manoj Kumar Khosla Assistant Commissioner, Food and Sangeeta Sehdev, Food Safety Officer have been conducting raids and taking samples of raw food materials, eatables and as well as taking stock of the sanitation and hygiene at places where the eatables are being prepared.
So far, the team has collected more than 300 samples by conducting raids at different shops. At least 40 samples of sweets and other eatables were collected from different places during October.
Today, the team raided the factory of Gurudayal Chandan, Rail Majra in Balachaur sub-division of the district and seized about 10 quintals of desi ghee contained in 44 tins of 15 kg each and 3 drums containing 3.40 kg each. The ghee was to be sold under brand name "Surabhi Ghee". Its stock was suspected to be adulterated during the preliminary investigation as one of the partners present there, Chiranjit couldn't produce any sale purchase record.
"The raid was conducted on a secret information. The team took sample of desi ghee for analysis and the entire stock of desi ghee has been sealed and kept in the safe custody of the firm under surety bond. The account books and relevant documents of the firm have also been taken in the custody for further investigation as per Food Safety Act. The firm was also packing paneer in tins and sample of the same has also been taken. The samples will be sent to food lab for analysis and further action will be taken if the samples failed the quality tests under Food Safety and Standards Act", said Manoj Khosla and Sangeeta Sehdev.
Mirzapur: 90 students fall sick after consuming contaminated food
Mirzapur, Oct 14 (ANI): At least 90 students of a school fell sick in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur district after consuming contaminated food.
The children complained of abdominal pain and vomiting after consuming the meal following which they were admitted to the Vindhyachal Health Center here.
Around 45 students, whose condition was serious, were referred to another hospital.
"Some students complained of abdominal pain and vomiting after eating the food. When we checked the food we found a tail of lizard it which could have contaminated the food," Jai Singh, principal of the school said.
The school is situated in Persia Dhuwa village of Vindhyachal.
No causality has been reported yet.
Ahead of Diwali, health department officials unearth a unit producing mawa using vanaspati oil and milk powder
JAIPUR: The health department's food safety officers unearthed a mawa manufacturing unit which was preparing it by using vanaspati oil and milk powder in Morijavillage of Chomu in Jaipur on Saturday.
They also destroyed 120 kg of mawa prepared by using vansapati oil and milk powder. They also collected samples of rasgulla and mawa from different shops in the city.
Ahead of Diwali, health department's food safety officers inspected Chitwari area of Chomu, where large numbers of factories are situated producing mawa and collected samples for testing its quality on Saturday.
It is a small village Chitwari in Jaipur's Chomu tehsil which supplies mawa for fulfilling its requirement in Jaipur.
"Recently, we have found that there is a mawa producing unit near Jaipur which was using skimmed milk powder and vanaspati oil. It was substandard mawa. Now, as the demand for mawa has gone up, it is required to ensure that people should not get adulterated or sub-standard mawa," said, Dr Narrottam Sharma, chief medical health officer (CMHO) Jaipur.
The food safety officers started their day at 6am and till 6pm, they continued collecting samples of mawa.
