Thane: The Kapurbaudi police have arrested two people for supplying and selling adulterated food items in the shop. The two arrested are Haresh Bhanushali, 48, the owner of Shri Avdharam General store and Bagoji Manohar Ghatkar, 34, the supplier.
A girl, who celebrated her birthday on Wednesday, had distributed chocolates, after which around 20
students suffered food poisoning and were admitted to a city hospital.
Vidya Patare, 14, a class IX student from Sanket Vidyalaya, Manpada, purchased chocolates from the
store, which was opposite her school.
After consuming the chocolates, the students were admitted to the Titan hospital in Manpada. They were vomiting, shivering, they had severe stomach pain and were not able to stand. a staff from the hospital said.
The Kapurbaudi police registered a case against two accused and arrested them on Wednesday night.
KD Katkar, investigation officer, Kapurbaudi police station said, "We arrested the two culprits on
Wednesday night itself. Both were produced in Thane court on Thursday and were released on bail."
The Kapurbaudi police have registered a case under section 273 (sale of noxious food or drink), 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 337 endangering life or personal safety of others) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and section 59 (punishment for unsafe food) of The Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
