SRINAGAR: A team of Food Safety Officers of Drugs and Food Control Organization headed by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar inspected Industrial Estate Baghi Ali Mardan Khan Srinagar today.
During the inspection one spice manufacturing unit namely M/S Idrees Enterprises was found adding synthetic color (Sudan Dye) in red chilies powder, which is prohibited under Food Safety and Standards Act. As many as 734 Kgs of Chilies Powder was seized and samples of the same were sent for analysis. Another unit holder of spices namely Shaheen Spices was found adding turmeric powder to Sounf power where 500 Kgs of such Sounf Powder was seized and samples sent for analysis.
In Addition a huge quantity of food affected food items worth Rs. 3.75 lakh were destroyed on spot in various areas of the Srinagar City today.
