40 kg of rotten fish destroyed

Surprise checks conducted
The officials of the Food Safety Department on Wednesday conducted surprise check of meat and fish stalls in VOC market in the city, and initiated action against those selling rotten fish.
A team of officials led by T. Anuradha, District Designated Officer, Food Safety Department, arrived at the VOC market early morning and inspected each and every stall.
They seized the rotten fish from some of the stalls, and served notice on the stall owners.
Later, the team visited Mohammadpura, and inspected the beef stalls.
They noticed that some of the stalls were functioning in an unhygienic manner.
Shop owners were asked to keep their shops neat and tidy.
They seized rotten fish from fish stalls there too.
Dr. Anuradha said that the surprise checks were conducted following complaints.
She said about 40 kg of rotten fish was seized, and destroyed.
The meat stall owners have been directed not to display the meat stock outside their shops. The meat should be properly covered using a clean cloth.
Warning
The stall owners of the VOC Market, and the Mohammadpura were warned of action on an earlier occasion too. Some of the shop owners were running the shop without valid license. The license of few others had already expired. They have been asked to apply for a license, or renew it by August 4.
Norms
Stringent action will be taken against those who do not adhere to the government norms, she said.
