Worm inside Russ fruit juice packet shivers consumers
10 June, Gangtok : Despite the Food Security and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has been strongly pressing processed foods or readily edible itineraries to be concealed as per the standards for hygienic delivery to the customers but overlooking the norms and parameters of FSSAI there still runs such products which are being openly marketed and those could even endanger lives of innocent consumers.
In exercise of the powers by section 92 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (34 of 2006), FSSAI has preset formalities which include canned food in solid or liquid form should stringently cope with guidelines before the food or itineraries reaches end user or consumers.
In an astonishing incident that occurred on 9 June in capital, two lawyers went to nearby shop to take a processed juice. Shopkeeper handed a packet of juice to both of them, one of them when opened a worm wriggled from the straw vent. The packed produce brand named ‘Russ’ which comes in all fruit flavors are typically marketed in state and its common among children and youngsters.
With such disappointing situation the shocked lawyers have objected the quality of products which astonished them on seeing worm inside the Russ packet.
So called ‘Tetra Packaging’ could be such lethal for people to consume after the incident has raised a big question on manufacturing side.
A question do rise on credibility of the factory which produces such juice in packets sidelining the norms prescribed by FSSAI on Tetra Packaging. Anomalies as such could led to death of anyone from children to adults if they by mistake sip even a minute adulterated juice from the tetra-pack container/packet.
In the incident above the lawyers have decided to lodge a complaint to the State Consumer Forum and the State Health Department along with the Russ packet which was found fully contaminated by worms.
