Container trucks loaded with Maggi noodles outside the ACC Cement Factory at Wadi in Kalaburagi district on Wednesday.
Of this, 600 tonnes incinerated to produce fuel
Around 600 tonnes of Maggi noodles seized from Karnataka and neighbouring States were incinerated in the ACC Cement Factory at Wadi in Chittapur taluk of Kalaburagi district in the last four days.
District Food Safety officer R.S. Biradar told The Hindu on Wednesday that the ACC Cement plant has received 922 tonnes of Maggi noodles seized from 14 States across the country in the last nine days, of which 600 tonnes of Maggi noodles has been incinerated to produce an alternate fuel. The crushing and incinerating process started from June 13, he added.
The number of trucks lined up outside the factory containing Maggi noodles was increasing every day, but the factory was unloading around 15 to 20 trucks of products every day for crushing, Mr. Biradar said. The crushed products were mixed with charcoal in the kilns and incinerated. The method of incinerating was eco-friendly, Mr. Biradar said.
Drivers of private transport companies, who were waiting to unload the products outside the factory, had to wait for a long time. Rakesh Singh and Mustakeem, truck drivers of private transport company from Uttar Pradesh, said that more than 200 drivers were waiting for their turn to unload for the last week.
“We are running out of money and it is difficult to get food in this isolated area,” said Mangiram, a truck driver from Rajasthan.
