A food safety team conducted a surprise raid in ‘Punjabi’ dhabas along Perundurai road recently and confiscated monosodium glutamate and artificial colouring agents from a few places.
The team that conducted the raid under instructions from District Collector S. Prabakar also determined hygiene in preparation of food at the hotels.
Advising the hotels to utilise quality inputs for preparation, to store vegetarian and non-vegetarian items separately under hygienic conditions, to use fresh and quality cooking oil, the team emphasised on maintenance of hygiene at the kitchen, dining area and store room.
The hotels were told that they must necessarily obtain licence from the Food Safety Department, and that in case of future complaints, the samples will be taken and further action will be initiated.
Public and consumers have been advised to convey any shortcomings they come across in the hotels to the office of the Designated Officer for Food Safety and Drug Administration, functioning on the premises of Government Headquarters Hospital, over phone:0424-2223545.
