Municipal Court summons Hatrick proprietor for fungal bread

SRINAGAR, June 27: The food safety department has asked Surya Health Care Industries Bari Brahamana Jammu to recall its products-Mango Drink (Treat) from the market within four days.

The directive has come in wake of sampling of its products that were found with erased manufacturing date, batch number and other label requirements.

“Your product namely Mango Drink (Treat) has been found with erased manufacturing date, batch number and other label requirements. While as fresh date/batch number has been embossed on this product which is an offence under Food Safety Standards Act (FSSA) 2006, rules 2011,” reads the directive issued by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety district Srinagar, a copy of which has been endorsed to deputy commissioner Srinagar vide number FSSA/SGR/518-22 dated June 27, 2015, a copy of which is in possession of Kashmir Despatch.

The directive reads further: “It appears that you have recalled flood hit items and then re-labelled the same. Samples of this product have been lifted and sent to the food analyst. You are directed to recall all such products from market within a period of four days positively. The same shall be stored in main super stockiest godown at Srinagar for further necessary action under law.”

Meanwhile, in a complaint filed by Tabish Bhat a resident of Basant Bagh at present Rajbagh Srinagar against Showket Choudhary proprietor of Hatrick unit Jawahir Nagar Srinagar, the municipal magistrate has summoned Choudhary before the court on July 16.

“The complainant has filed the complaint which is supported by an affidavit against the accused (Showkat Choudhary) that at the time of Iftar the complainant approached the accused at his bakery shop at Jawahir Nagar in order to bring bread for his family on June 25, reads the court order while referring to the compliant.

The complainant has said that when the bread was opened by him, he approached the bakery shop and told them that the bread is adulterated with fungus. “The shopkeeper opened another bread which was present for sale at the shop and that too was found full of fungus. The accused could not give any explanation for keeping sub-standard and adulterated and full of fungus bread in his shop,” reads the complaint.

The complainant has later approached police station Rajbagh for lodging the compliant. “The police concerned was asked for the receipt of the said bread which the complainant was not provided by the accused shopkeeper. In support of the compliant the statement of the complainant and one witness has been recorded,” reads the court order.
