Chandigarh: The meeting of subcommittee of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal -CBM- regarding Food Safety was held on Thursday under its chairmanship Naresh Mahajan. The members welcomed the constitution of committee by JP Nadda, minister of health and family welfare, Government of India on the demand of Bhartiya Udyog Beopar Mandal, Chandigarh Beopar Mandal and other trader bodies to address the genuine concerns of traders doing food business as well as general public at large. Committee will submit its report within 45 days from 1st meeting after taking suggestions for rationalization of Act from various trader bodies and general public.
Charanjiv Singh, President of CBM while thanking the central Minister Nadda for taking up this initiative appealed to the government to extend the last date for applying new licenses and renewals till submission of report by committee as the committee has yet to consider the suggestions which shall be incorporated in the Food safety and standard act 2006. Diwakar Sahoonja Chief Patron CBM said that the Ministry must give due representation to trader bodies in the said subcommittee so that concerns of traders is also well taken care of. Om Prakash Budhiraja, President Sanyukat Beopar Mandal Manimajra appealed the Chandigarh administration to exempt without further delay `NOC from M.
C. clause` for renewal of licenses of more than one thousand traders doing food business in Manimajra and other villages falling under M.C.
to save them from being uprooted as food authority of India has already made this clause optional and given power to the state to decide the issue.
