KOCHI: Kerala governor Nikhil Kumar on Tuesday inaugurated the first session of Codex Committee on Spices and Culinary Herbs (CCSCH) in Kochi. CCSCH was set up by Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), the influential body that sets global food standards.
"CCSCH will encourage deliberations towards harmonization of global quality standards for spices and culinary herbs. This in turn is expected to facilitate international spice trade through better transparency. Spices Board is proud to be associated with the first session of the CCSCH which happens to coincide with the 50th anniversary celebrations of CAC," said A Jayathilak, chairman of Spices Board.
K Chandramouli, chairperson of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI); J S Deepak, additional secretary, department of commerce; Sanjay Dave, chair, Codex Alimentarius Commission; and Kunal Bagchi, regional adviser, World Health Organisation were present during the inaugural ceremony.
