A month after it was launched in Chandigarh, the Mobile food testing laboratory has tested around 100 food samples till now.

“The laboratory has tested approximately 100 samples brought to us by 92 people from across the city”, Sukhwinder Singh, designated officer of the Food Licensing Authority told Chandigarh Newsline. According to the records maintaned by the department, 15 out of 70 milk samples, which were tested by the specialised Eco Milk machine, failed the quality tests owing to a higher amount of water resulting in lesser fat and nutrition content, while 3 out of 15 turmeric samples have shown presence of artificially added colour. Most of these adulterants like synthetic colour, starch, washing soda and chalk powder present in household products cause diarrhoea, dizziness, stomach ache, vomitting and may even lead to serious illnesses when consumed for a long period of time, officials at the food safety department said.
Talking about the citizen’s response to the laboratory, Sukhwinder said, “While the initiative was started just for Chandigarh citizens, people from Mohali have also come to get their samples checked, which is promising. I would encourage many more people to come and get their samples checked.”
At which cost. For 100 samples . The investment around is 15 lack. Thus one sample cost will be Rs.15000/- That too incomplete analysis. Hence this gimmick should be avoided.
