Students at the session on Health Education for All public awareness programme at JIPMER on Tuesday.
Around 300 participants, including college students, attended the 10th session of the Health Education for All public awareness campaign conducted by the Jawaharlal Institute of Post graduate Medical Education and Research on Tuesday focusing on ‘Safe food for healthy living.’
The session looked at food hygiene, buying and eating safe food, the health impact of unsafe food, common food adulterants, and how to ensure the safety of food, a press release from the institute said.
It was addressed by Dr. K.C. Premarajan, Head, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Dr. Deepak Amalnath, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, Dr. T. Mahalakshmy, Assistant Professor, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, and Dr. S.D. Balakrishnan, Designated Officer, Department of Food Safety, Puducherry Government.
Dr. Sujiv A., Senior Resident, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine and R. Srividhya, Medical Social Worker, Department of Medicine, moderated the session.
The session was telecast live to all medical colleges of south India under the National Medical College Network (NMCN) Project through JIPMER Regional Resource Centre.
The session has also also been made available streaming online at ustream.tv on the Jipmer Telemedicine channel.
A series of interactive sessions, the ‘Health Education for All’, focuses on building knowledge among the public, patients and care-givers on prevention and treatment of common illnesses, and is expected to improve public awareness on health and diseases.
The sessions are conducted in Tamil on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month in the evenings.
