TDB vigilance wing asked to check raw materials for quality standards
The Vigilance wing of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) has been asked by the High Court of Kerala to independently collect samples of raw materials brought to Sabarimala for the preparation ofAravana and other Prasadams with the assistance of a Food Safety Officer.
The samples thus collected shall be examined at an appropriate lab, the court ordered.
The order was issued by a Division Bench of the court comprising Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice Anu Sivaraman while considering a report by Sabarimala Special Commissioner K. Babu.
The Special Commissioner reported to the court that there were allegations regarding the quality of raw materials, including jaggery, supplied for the preparation of Aravana and other Prasadams .
The Commissioner brought to the attention of the court that Food Safety Commissionerate was not promptly sending the reports of inspection of raw materials. The materials were now being examined randomly.
There was the need for strict quality monitoring of raw materials, the Commissioner submitted.
He also sought direction to the TDB vigilance wing to independently collect the raw materials for inspection with the assistance of the food safety officials.
The court directed the Food Safety Commissioner to forward the examination results to the Sabarimala Special Commissioner.
