IMPHAL, Jul 26 : Food Safety Officer Chandel conducted a drive against the import of sub-standard food items from Myanmar at 20 Assam Rifles post located at Bongjang village along Imphal-Moreh road on Saturday.
Briefing the media persons, Government of Sub-standard food items, FSO, Chandel Elvison Thouman Maring said the drive was conducted in accordance with the order of the State Government issued on February 2, 2013.
Large quantity of sub-standard food items including dried fruits, pickles, snacks and diary products imported from Myanmar were pulled down for disposal after checking all the vehicles coming from Moreh.
Sub-standard food items without markings and manufacture date, batch number and expiry date imported from Myanmar have been banned by the State Government under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
FSO, Chandel said a fines could be levied against violators under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
