“Food business operators should ensure quality”

Food business operators should adopt necessary requirements specified in the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006, to ensure quality in food production, Collector M. Ravikumar has said.
The operators should renew licences from Food Safety Officers, he said at a meeting convened here on Friday.
The food business operators could access www.foodlicensing.fssai.gov.in to know more about the processes of registering and applying for licences. During the schedule, he sought cooperation from such operators to fully implement the FSSA and also ensured them that grievances, if any, could be redressed.
He also asked the consumers to be aware of unadulterated milk and salt.
Salt should contain 30 ppm of iodine at the producer level and 15 ppm of iodine at the consumer level.
The Food Safety Officers had been instructed to conduct checks to prevent artificial ripening of mangoes by vendors and initiate necessary action.
The Collector said efforts would be made to establish slaughterhouses to ensure quality of meat.
District Designated Officer of the FSSA M. Jegadis Chandrabose, Regional Transport Officer K. Anand and food business operators attended the meeting.
