TRICHY: The Trichy Corporation has served eviction notices to all the mobile eateries located on the sides of the Central Bus Stand. The corporation has taken the bold move to ease congestion created by the eateries, to passengers and buses.
At least 30 to 40 eateries are located near the bus stand catering to commuters and public alike.
However, the eviction order has not gone well with the owners of the eateries, who have knocked on the doors of the district administration seeking its intervention in the issue.
The city police have also erected a huge board on VOC Road, adjacent to the bus stand, ordering the mobile eateries near the bus stand to vacate from the spot.
The eateries for long have been an issue in terms of hygiene and inconvenience they cause to people and buses that arrive to the bus stand.
According to a senior official from the corporation, the eviction notice to mobile eateries was served a few days ago after several warnings. The eateries did not heed to the warnings, prompting the corporation to take such a move.
The official said the food safety department has been ordering the eateries to abide by safety standards and follow hygiene in preparation of food items but in vain.
The corporation officials served the eviction notice after holding discussion with law enforcing authorities and the health department.
The owners of the mobile eateries are now planning to hold demonstrations and move courts. They claim that they were able to make the ends meet only through these mobile eateries.
An owner of a mobile eatery said, "Policemen usually come and dine in our eateries without paying. But now they have erected boards ordering our eviction."
