Aravana production at Sabarimala was disrupted from Monday afternoon following shortage of raisins. Sources told The Hindu that the aravana plant was shut down from 3.30 p.m. on Monday owing to shortage of raisins, a key ingredient of the ‘prasadom’ at Sabarimala. Food Safety officials had rejected a truckload of the commodity supplied by a contractor to the TDB a week ago, finding it inferior. However, the shutdown had little impact on aravana distribution as the TDB had a buffer stock of 23 lakh cans.
