JMC’S DRIVE AGAINST FOOD ADULTERATION,POLYTHENE

17 kg banned material seized, Rs 14,300 fine realized
Jammu, July 3: Continuing its drive against food adulteration, smoking in public places and polythene carry bags, the team of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today destroyed 12 kg sub-standard food items and also seized about 17 kg of polythene carry bags besides realizing a fine of Rs 14,300 from the defaulters. 
The team of Health & Sanitation Wing of JMC led by Dr. Mohd Saleem Khan, Health Officer JMC, under directions from Commissioner, inspected various food establishments like milk shops and milkvendors, hotels, restaurants, provisional stores, food stalls, sabzi (vegetable) vendors, fruit juicecorners / vendors, tea stalls, ice cream corners, etc. at Bikram Chowk, Residency Road, Maheshpura Chowk, Bakshi Nagar, Railway Station, Kunjwani, Gangyal, Preet Nagar, Narwal, Nanak Nagar, and their adjoining areas across Jammu City.
During the checking, about 12 kg of stale cooked food was destroyed by the team on spot, which was found to be unfit for human consumption. The team also booked 07 persons under COTP Act 2003 and a fine of Rs. 800/- was imposed as penalty from the defaulters.
The team also seized about 17 kg of polythene carry bags from different areas across the city and a fine of Rs 13,500 was imposed on the defaulters.
The food business operators were directed by the JMC not to sell any type of unhygienic food not conforming to prescribed quality and standards and can put the public health to danger. 
They were warned that stringent action under Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006, shall be taken against the defaulters. 
The Health Officer, JMC, also appealed to all the food business operators to apply / get renewed theirfood license before 04th of August 2014, otherwise action under rules shall be initiated against the defaulters.
The citizens were also advised not to smoke in the public places as it is injurious to health. The JMC also appealed to the people not to use the polythene carry bags and make Jammu City free from the ill effects of polythene bags in this rainy season.
