SRINAGAR, JUNE 18: A daylong Registration Mela for the shopkeepers operating in the areas of Dara, New Theed and Saidapora of Harwan in district Srinagar was organized by Drugs and Food Control Organization for the implement of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
As many as 70 shopkeepers were registered under the said Act.
Awareness programme on food safety and food borne illness were also conducted in these areas. It was impressed on the all the consumers that they shall always check expiry dated, when they will purchase any article of food and it was clarified that people should totally avoid consumption of open spices as they are strictly banned under the Food Safety Act.
Moreover, 145 signage’s on advertisement of tobacco products were also removed during the field inspection and shopkeeper were informed that advertisement under Cigarettes & other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 is prohibited and punishable with an imprisonment upto five years.
