A team of Food Safety officials made surprise raids in big and small hotels and roadside eateries across Kanyakumari district on Saturday with an aim to ensure quality and hygienic food is served to the visiting Ayyappa devotees and tourists.
As a large number of Ayyappa devotees and tourists are visiting Kanyakumari, Vattakottai, Nagercoil, Udayagiri fort, Padmanabhapuram Palace and Thirparappu falls, Collector, S. Nagarajan directed the Food Safety officials to carry out the surprise raids.
The team conducted raids in 20 hotels, including four big ones, and destroyed decayed food and sub-standard eatables such as snacks. The team conducted checks in shops and destroyed expired cashew nut pockets. The team inspected wayside eateries and sweet stalls at Kottar in Nagercoil where St. Xavier’s Church festival is going on.
