The Lalit, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi, will host the first conference
of the India section of the Association of Analytical Communities (AOAC)
International on July 26, 2013. The meet is supported by the Food
Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), the Export Inspection
Council of India (EIC), the Bureau of India Standards (BIS), the
Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority
(APEDA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Deepa Bhajekar, managing director, MicroChem Silliker India, is president, AOAC International's India section, which will address all analytical issues for all food made in India (be it processed, raw materials, agri or new formulations that require sensitive methods for testing) and take them up for method development and validation by various private and government food laboratories in India. Several private firms, academia and regulatory bodies are expected to participate in the conference.
Various technical problems would be taken up at the conference, aimed at energising food analysis in India. AOAC's India section would initiate the validation programme and focus on developing methods for sucrose content in fruit and vegetable products; multi-residue analysis for plant growth regulators in fresh fruit and vegetables; iodine by ICPMS in infant formulae and baby foods; upgradation of metal methods analysis for packaged drinking water by ICPMS, and biotin in nutritional products.
