Officials seizing gutka and pan masala from a shop in Pudukottai on Monday.
In a surprise raid on 34 shops in various parts of the
town on Monday, Food Security Officers seized gutka and pan masala worth
about Rs.5,150. They warned vendors against stocking and selling of
banned products.
The raid was conducted by a team led
by S. Arumugam at shops located in and around the new bus stand and
market area. As this was the first seizure in the district since the ban
came into place , the raid served as a warning. “Legal action would be
initiated in case of repetition of offence,” he said.
Raids would be conducted in all blocks from Tuesday all through the month, he said.
