Spurious food products seized from shops

Food safety officers swoop onshops in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin

A team of Food safety officers conducted surprise raids in shops at Tirunelveli Junction on Tuesday and seized spurious products worth Rs. 20,000, which were destroyed at the site.

The officials, led by Devika, Designated Officer, inspected the stalls selling water sachets, soft drinks and snack packets and checked if the mandatory manufacturing details were printed on them .

Manufacturing date

"As some of the snack packets showed the month of manufacturing as May 2013, they were also seized and destroyed," said A.R. Sankaralingam, Food Safety Inspector.

Tuticorin

Spurious soft drinks on sale in several shops in the town were seized and destroyed by a team of Food Safety Officers during surprise raids. Many shopkeepers were found selling products past their expiry dates. Besides, ISI certification marks, manufacturing dates and brand labels were missing on many products, M. Jagadish Chandrabose, Designated Officer, who led the operation, said. Additives and food colours, which were not permitted, were detected in ice creams, fruit squashes, sherbets, flavoured milk and other food items. Food products and soft drinks worth Rs. 30,000 were seized and destroyed at the site, he said. The officials also conducted raids in fruit shops and warned the shopkeepers of stern action if mangoes were ripened artificially using calcium carbide.

Packaged drinking water samples were collected and despatched to the government laboratory in Guindy, Chennai, for testing. The raids were conducted on a directive of Food Safety Commissioner Kumar Jayanth, Dr. Chandrabose said.

கடைகளில் தரம் குறைந்த குளிர்பானங்கள் அழிப்பு

தூத்துக்குடி மாநகரப் பகுதியில் உள்ள பழக்கடைகளில் விற்பனை செய்யப்பட்ட காலாவதியான மற்றும் தரம் குறைந்த குளிர்பானங்கள், உணவுப் பொருள்களை அதிகாரிகள் கண்டுபிடித்து செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை அழித்தனர்.

தூத்துக்குடி மாநகராட்சிப் பகுதியில் காலாவதியான, போலியான குளிர்பானங்கள், தண்ணீர் பாக்கெட்டுகள்  மற்றும் உணவுப் பொருள்கள் விற்பனை செய்யப்படுவதாக புகார் எழுந்தது.

 இதையடுத்து, மாவட்ட உணவு பாதுகாப்புத் துறை நியமன அலுவலர் மருத்துவர் ஜெகதீஷ் சந்திரபோஸ் தலைமையிலான அதிகாரிகள் செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை திடீரென பழக்கடைகள் மற்றும் குளிர்பான விற்பனை நிலையங்களில் செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை சோதனை மேற்கொண்டனர்.

தூத்துக்குடி பழைய பஸ் நிலையம் பகுதியில் உள்ள குளிர்பான கடைகளில் நடத்திய சோதனையின்போது, பல கடைகளில் காலாவதியான குளிர்பானங்கள், தண்ணீர் பாக்கெட்டுகள், தண்ணீர் கேன்கள், தரம் குறைந்த உணவுப் பொருள்கள் இருப்பது கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டு பறிமுதல் செய்யப்பட்டு அழிக்கப்பட்டன.

 மேலும், விற்பனைக்காக வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்த பொருள்களின் தரம் குறித்து ஆய்வு செய்வதற்காக மாதிரிகள் எடுக்கப்பட்டு சென்னையில் உள்ள கிங்ஸ் ஆய்வு மையத்துக்கு அனுப்பி வைக்கப்பட்டன. சோதனை முடிவுகள் வந்தபிறகு தொடர்ந்து நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும் என அதிகாரிகள் தெரிவித்தனர்.

இந்தச் சோதனை குறித்து மாவட்ட நியமன அலுவலர் ஜெகதீஷ் சந்திரபோஸ் கூறுகையில்,

பொதுமக்களுக்கு சுகாதாரமாகவும், உடல் நலத்துக்கு கெடுதல் விளைவிக்காத வகையில் பழரசங்கள், குளிர்பானங்கள் விற்பனை செய்யவேண்டும் என்பதற்காக தமிழக உணவு பாதுகாப்புத் துறை ஆணையர் குமார் ஜெயந்த் உத்தரவின்பேரில், மாவட்ட ஆட்சியர் ஆஷிஷ்குமாரின் வழிகாட்டுதலின் பேரில் இந்தச் சோதனைகள் நடத்தப்பட்டன.

மாவட்டத்தின் அனைத்து பகுதிகளிலும் இதுபோன்ற சோதனை தொடர்ந்து நடைபெறும். காலாவதியான உணவுப் பொருள்கள் இருப்பது கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டால் சம்பந்தப்பட்டவர்கள் மீது உரிய நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும் என்றார்.
