Satej Patil asks FM to give nod to separate Budget for Maharashtra FDA

The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Maharashtra, will have a separate Budget soon.

Satej (Bunty) Patil, Maharashtra minister for FDA, explained, “I personally met finance minister
P Chidambaram in this regard. Earlier FDA was not regarded as a priority sector and there was no separate Budget for FDA. The Budget for this sector was included in the medical and health sector.”

He added, “I asked the FM for separate budget for FDA and he assured me of the same. He assured me that initially there would be a separate Budget for FDA but later it could be included in the Five Year Plan.”

Patil added, “Once the separate Budget for FDA is sanctioned, more food safety officers (FSOs) will be recruited on an urgent basis.”

When questioned about licensing and registration in Maharashtra, he informed, “Maharashtra is the leading state in the licensing and registration process. We have collected revenue worth more than

Rs 60 crore from more than 2.5 lakh FBOs in the state. We are still continuing the process at a rapid pace even after the extension of the deadline and sure that we will be the first state in the country to complete the licensing and registration process.”
