Panaji: A four-wheeler called 'food safety on wheels', with instruments that allow for on-the-spot food safety tests, will be launched on Sunday by chief minister Manohar Parrikar, health minister Vishwajit Rane said on Thursday. Rane said the vehicle, to be operated by the food and drugs administration (FDA), has been acquired at a cost of Rs 41 lakh, with funds provided by the central government.
"Goa was the first state to acquire the 'food safety on wheels'. It is fully equipped, and can test water, collect food samples at eateries for tests. The result can be obtained within 15 minutes," said Rane.
