FDA orders 4 Mapusa food outlets shut

Mapusa: Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Tuesday inspected four premises in Mapusa and ordered their closure for operating in unhygienic conditions and without a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence.
FDA officials said an inspection was carried out as part of a special drive at Hotel Aflatoon and it was found allegedly operating in unhygienic conditions and without a FSSAI licence. FDA officials said that the food operator was inspected earlier and a notice was issued to shut down. But, the operator did not adhere to FDA directives and continued to operate without a licence. The FDA ordered its closure. As part of the drive, FDA also raised three temporary stalls operating outside kiosks at the Mapusa bus stand. These stalls were found in alleged unhygienic conditions and without FSSAI registration. The temporary units were closed and cleared with help from Mapusa muncipality. The FDA team comprised designated officer Richard Noronha, senior food safety officer Rajiv Korde, food safety officers Atul Dessai, Madhav Kavlekar, and Sujata Shetgaonkar along with staffers Sudhakar Parsekar and Arjun Naik.
