Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday instructed the police to curb food adulteration in coordination with Food Safety Department. A special team has been constituted for inspection of eateries in the limits of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
The GHMC is taking steps to ensure hygiene in the eating houses and also to curb food adulteration. The GHMC is determined to enforce the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Rules, 2011 and also the Provisions of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act, 1955.
The Food Safety officials, Assistant Medical Officers of Health (AMoH), Deputy Commissioners and other officials concerned are conducting surprise inspections on hotels and restaurants. The officials had so far inspected as many as 373 hotels between March 3 and June 3. Penalties to the tune of 16,77,700 were imposed on 208 hotels.
The special teams are tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that the premises of hotels are kept in hygienic condition and staff are neat and tidy. Eateries have been directed to see that kitchen rooms are tidy and proper ventilation. They have also been asked not to keep the food in refrigerators.
