If you are buying food products or medicines, check for the expiry date and maximum retail price (MRP) and ask for a proper receipt. In case of buying agricultural and silk products or gold ornaments, the consumer has to look for labels of AGMARK, Silk Mark and respectively. These were the instructions given to consumers on the National Consumers Day observed in Puducherry on Monday.
Department of Food Safety officer M. Ravichandran spoke on the topic ‘Oppose Adulterated Food and the Right to Safe and Healthy food’.
Apart from this, voluntary organisations also spoke about consumer rights.
In case of disputes, people have to approach the consumer court or any voluntary organisation working on consumer rights, recognised by the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs.
