Farmers representatives one after the other who spoke at the farmers grievances day meeting on Friday commended the initiative taken by the Food
Safety Department headed by Dr. Anuradha raided units indulging in adulteration for the preparation of jaggery, sago etc in the district.
The official’s action has been widely welcomed by all sections of the society, they said and demanded adequate protection to her.
The government should provide police protection to her and her team and also post adequate staff to her department.
N. Elango, Joint Director of Agriculture, urged the farmers representatives to submit a petition in this regard.
When a farmer said that food safety officials should initiate action against the major sago and jaggery manufacturing units too, R. P. Rajendran, personal assistant to the Collector (Agriculture) said that Dr. Anuradha had raided a major sago manufacturing unit in Attur on Thursday.
Some of the farmers urged the district administration to order police protection to the officer on its own, taking into consideration the risk involved in her job.
Dr. Anuradha thanked the farmers for their gesture.
