These shops will have several customer-friendly arrangements
In an effort to enhance the customer satisfaction, the Co-operative Department plans to set up three model ration shops in rural areas of the district.
Besides changing the overall look of the ration shops, the move will focus on providing customer-friendly facilities. Provision of furniture, waiting arrangements for customers, creating drinking water facilities, and establishing “first come first serve” set up were among part of the proposals mooted in the model ration shop proposal.
K.C. Ravichandran, Joint Registrar, Co-Operative, told The Hindu that the department had been trying to step up facilities in all 1,136 ration shops gradually.
In the initial phase, three ration shops in rural parts of the district would be created with all necessary facilities for customers.
The selection of ration shops would be done within a few days.
The shops would have all facilities such as chairs, spacious seating arrangements, waiting hall, and so on.
If there were no fans, they would be provided with them. He said the department was committed to ensure the parameters of hygiene stipulated by the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 in all ration shops. A circular would soon be sent to the salesmen of all ration shops in the district to improve the cleanliness.
Five days from 20th to 24th of every month were considered as lean days for all ration shops in view of loading stocks for the next month.
The lean days should be utilised for cleaning the ration shops.
The surroundings should be kept neat and clean. Two days at least could be allotted for cleaning the shops every month.
