VADODARA: As many as 27 food and related outlets from where the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) had collected samples were fined by the adjudicating officer under the Food Safety and Standard Act. In all a fine of Rs 2.66lakh was imposed on these outlets.
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) had collected samples of flour, ghee, oil, sweets, savories, paneer, mava, energy drinks and other food items. The civic body had filed cases against them for misbranding or being substandard.
VMC officials said that besides the outlets as many as seven directors and proprietors of various outlets were fined by the civic body. Besides misbranding and substandard products, the civic body had also identified a case of adulteration.
Sources said that the adulteration case pertained to carbide packets being found at a mango outlets. Carbide that is used to ripen mangoes is considered an adulterant under the act. It had come to light during raids by the civic body that two wholesalers at Khanderao Market and BPC Road were using the product to ripen mangoes.
