LUCKNOW: Complan the 'complete planned food' now also comes with a can of worms for its consumers at least in Lucknow. The food supplement, which has been a regular commodity at the Raisinghania household in Lucknow's Mahanagar area, on Saturday triggered a panic reaction, when the loyal customer was aghast to see a virtually a colony of worms floating on the energy drink.
Narrating the trauma she and her family members went through, Tanisha, a resident of Mahanagar, said, "It was on Saturday morning that I opened the Complan packet and added few spoons of the food supplement in milk. However, as soon as I stirred the food drink, I was amazed to see virtually a can of white worms and some dead insects floating on the surface." She further added that she and her family members were horrified to see so many worms, and have decided not to opt for this energy drink at least for some time.
"The packet, which bears the date of manufacturing as February 2015, was purchased in May this year," said Tanisha, and added that following the dissemination of the news, officials of Food Safety and Drug Administration came to her house, and have taken the food packet along with them.
Confirming the development, food safety officer Basant Gupta, said, "I have issued a notice to Heinz India Pvt Ltd following the complaints received by Tanisha Raisinghania, a resident of Asha Apartment, Mahanagar. According to Tanisha, when she mixed Complan with milk, she observed black and white worms floating on the surface." He further added that the department is also issuing a notice to the company under relevant sections of Food Safety and Standard Act, 2006. The said packet which was brought by Tanisha's servant was manufactured in Uttarakhand's Uddham Singh Nagar, and bears the batch number NAT G23033A 02/15.
