The notorious 'Gutka Mafia' seems to be unfazed by the recent crackdown initiated by the Thane (rural) police and their FDA counterparts to clamp down on the illegal trade of banned tobacco products. A FDA team led by Assistant Commissioner Rajendra Runwal along with police personnel carried out raids in the Mira Road region on Wednesday. While four people have been booked in this context, guthka and scented tobacco products of various brands worth more than Rs 12,500 have been seized by the police team. The accused identified as Fayyaz Khan (19), Irfan Ansari (19), Asif Ansari (26) and Ahemed Ansari (41) have been charged under the relevant sections of the IPC and under regulations of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011,” said Food Inspector Manek Jadhav.
