Members of Tamil Nadu Foodgrains Merchants’ Association met Union Minister for Commerce (independent charge) Nirmala Seetharaman in Chennai on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum. A press release from S.P. Jeyapragasam, president of the association, said the members thanked the Minister for getting extension for registration and obtaining licences under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2011. The association also submitted a memorandum, urging the Health and Family Welfare Ministry to form a committee comprising agriculturalists, food scientists and food business operators to remove shortcomings and defects in the Act.
Good effort by industry to involve all stake holders in food chain to solve issues.
