KANPUR: Vendors and shanty shop owners of the city will have to make sure that they have a licence as food and medicine department has made it mandatory and would enforce the rule from 2014.
DR Mishra, nodal officer of food and medicine department informed that Food Safety Standard Authority of India (FSSI) has made certain provisions of the Food and Medicine Act mandatory. From February 2014, all vendors and shop owners who sell edibles are required to have a licence issued under Food and Medicine Act.
He informed that vendors who would not have license would be punished with imprisonment upto six months or fine to the tune of Rs 5 lakhs or both. The department has decided to organise camps at various localities of the city for issuing licence to shop owners. Vendors are required to bring two passport size photograph, an ID proof and receipt of the deposited fee for the same, he added.
Mishra said camps for licence would be held from December 6 to 13. On December 6 camp would be held in Vijay Nagar, on December 9 in Kaka Deo and on December 10 near Kalyanpur Sabji mandi, Kalyanpur. Similarly, on December 11,12 and 13 camp would he held at Sabji Mandi Nawabganj, Panki and Kamla Park in Sisamau, respectively. The annual fee for the licence would range from Rs 100 to Rs 5,000, he added.Meanwhile, municipal corporation has also identified spots for food zone in vicinity of corporation' building .A display board had been also raised there.
According to Rajeev Shukla zonal incharge of zone 4, corporation has identified the zone for vendors and shanty shop owners where they can set up their shops.
