Chennai: The food safety department conducted a raid on Thursday and sealed a restaurant in Saidapet because of the unhygienic conditions in its kitchen.
Food safety officials said they inspected in ‘Namma Chettinadu’ hotel after they received an email complaint. “We received an email from a resident in Tambaram who consumed chicken from this hotel and fell sick” said district food safety officer S Lakshmi Narayan.
He said several cockroaches were found in the storerooms and kitchen. “The kitchen was unhygienic. So, we have asked the restaurant authorities to improve the condition within 15 days,” Narayan said.
Officials have warned eateries that they should provide wholesome drinking water and serve freshly prepared food to customers or face strict action. “We are planning to conduct more inspections in hotels to ensure their kitchens and premises are in hygienic condition” Narayan said.
Those with complaints about poor quality food served in hotels can call 04423813095 or email commrfssa@gmail.com, officials said.
