The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) will hold a half-day workshop on Sunday for all the self-help groups (SHGs) engaged in the supply of midday meals to schools, at Institute of Nursing Education, Bambolim
Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar will inaugurate the workshop at 9.15 a.m., said FDA Director Salim Veljee on Thursday.
This comes in the wake of rising apprehensions among schoolchildren and parents about food-poisoning following last week’s raid which found major\minor lapses in sanitation in cooking of midday meal by self-help groups (SHGs) across the State.
The presentations at the workshop will spell out best practices on safe handling of food.
“This initiative will help in building confidence in the midday meal scheme and the SHGs,” Mr. Veljee said pointing out that food safety was a shared responsibility of all concerned including FDA, SHGs, and so on.
