The
Citizen Consumer Club was started by the college to educate and spread
awareness among students on consumer rights and responsibilities.
Students attending the workshop will be trained by the students of other
colleges in the city, who were originally trained under the Food Safety
and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
The workshop was conducted by
the students of Ethiraj College.Megha, a second year B Com (CS)
student of Ethiraj College, said “Through the Consumer Club of our
college, we were selected to undergo a four-day residential camp
organised by FSSAI last year. FSSAI gave us an insight into Food
Safety and Standards Act 2006. At the four-day camp, we learnt a lot of
things about identifying adulterated foods, significant things we should
look out for before buying, consumer rights among others. After the
camp, we also did projects on the theme of food safety. We went to other
colleges in the city to share our knowledge with other college
students. We use short films, radio jingles, powerpoints and street
plays to pass on the informations”.
Poonkodi, coordinator of the
Citizen Consumer Club, GSSJCW, said, “Through our club we conduct many
programmes related to consumers. This is one such programme, where our
students will also benefit.”
