JMC launches drive against adulteration

In the ongoing drive against the menace of adulteration in the commonly used food items by the team of Food Safety Officers headed by Health Officer Dr Mohd Saleem Khan of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on the directions of Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation inspected various prominent shops like M/s Darshan Halwai Nai Basti, Mewar Ice Cream Workshop Shastri Nagar, Surya Milk Outlets, M/s Bansi Halwai Nai Basti, M/s Casino Milk Shop Channi Himmat as well as various other Milk shops of Jammu city. During the drive about three quintals of Ice Cream prepared under unhygienic conditions was destroyed on spot and the utensils for storage/ manufacturing Ice Cream were also seized. 1 Qtl milk and 30 Kgs of stale cooked food was also destroyed on the spot. About 10 quintals of milk was checked and rupees 17300/- was realized as fine from the defaulters and about 25 Kgs of polythene carry bags was also seized.
Health Officer Jammu Municipal Corporation Dr Mohd Saleem Khan further appeals to all the Food Business Operators not to sell any type of unhygienic food items not conforming to prescribed quality and standards which can put the public health to danger, otherwise stringent action under Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 shall be taken against the defaulters. Moreover all the Food Business operators dealing with milk and milk products are strictly warned not to sell adulterated milk and milk products. They were also directed not to display their food products openly on roadside and out of their premises and also directed not to use colour for preparing sweets. Health Officer also advised the shopkeepers to cover their sweets and other eatable items, so that they are not exposed to dust and flies. 
Their workshops should be neat and clean failing which action under law will be initiated against them. During the round citizens were also advised not to smoke in the public places as it is injurious to health. The drive will continue and the general public is requested to co-operate.
