A team of Excise Department officials arrested two persons and seized 7,000 packets of (10 gram each packet) of banned tobacco products from them at the check-post at Muthanga on the Kerala-Karnataka border on Thursday night.
The arrested were identified as Shiju, 40, of Palakkunnel house (driver of the vehicle), and Santhosh, 35, of Vettithara house, at Nattakom in Kottaym district.
The officials also seized a vehicle that had been used for transporting the banned material During interrogation, they revealed that they were transporting the products from Mysore to supply it in various parts of Kottayam district, sources said.
