FSDA conducts sampling of mid-day meals, also takes milk samples from sweet shops

MEERUT: The Food Safety and Drugs Administration (FSDA) authorities conducted sampling of mid-day meals from government schools here on Wednesday. A total of 16 samples from primary schools and upper primary schools (Khair Nagar) were collected and sent for tests to a Lucknow laboratory.
Samples of tahri (a vegetarian version of biriyani) and milk were also taken from neighboring shops. "Sixteen samples of food items, including milk, tahri and mixed milk have been taken from sweet shops as well as primary and upper primary schools in Khair Nagar on Wednesday," said Archana Dheeran, designated officer, FSDA, Meerut.
The samples were collected and sent to the Lucknow laboratory to ensure that they were not tampered with. "Reports of the samples will come in a month's time and action will be taken accordingly," said Dheeran.

Unhygienic conditions, fake labels found at Srinagar confectionary unit

Nov 30: According to the Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, Srinagar a checking squad today inspected a confectionary unit which was manufacturing items using fake labels over them and was operating in total unsanitary conditions.
“On specific information that a food unit operating from Safakadal Srinagar is manufacturing groundnut chikkies and other confectionary items in the name of Manies sweets and Namkeen Okhla Bihar New Delhi, a team of food safety officers raided the unit.
The Assistant Commissioner said that during the inspection it was found that manufacturing was being carried out on a large scale in total unsanitary conditions and without obtaining license under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
“After lifting samples the whole stock which included 8500 packets of groundnut chikki and fake labels in huge quantity was seized and operation of the unit was closed,” he added.
Meanwhile, according to the Deputy Director Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Srinagar, an enforcement squad of the Department conducted market checking in the month of November 2017 in various areas falling within the vicinity of Srinagar.
During the market checking, 655 business establishments were inspected and a penal sum of Rs 160350 were collected as a fine from 241 erring shopkeepers.

Confectionary unit found in unsanitary condition, using fake labels

A confectionary unit was on Thursday found manufacturing items in unsanitary condition and with fake labels on them.
According to the Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, Srinagar, a checking squad inspected the confectionary manufacturer here.

Hyderabad: The sleuths of Commissioner’s Task Force, Central Zone team, Hyderabad on credible information conducted raid on noxious Gutka containing Tobacco contents illegal marketing, sales shops M/s New Royal Chalia Store, New Chalia Store & Mujahid Ali Store, all situated at MJ market, Hyderabad and apprehended (07) accused and Seized noxious Gutka packets which contains Tobacco and Nicotine as ingredients of various brands i.e., 1) BB Gutka, 2) Sagar Gutka, 3) BNB Gutka, 4) AP Gutka, 5) Q Gutka, 6) Miraj Swadeshi Tobacco, 7) Amber Tobacco, 8) Baba 120 Premium Chewing Tobacco, 9) Sagar chewing Tobacco, 10) RR Gold Chewing Tobacco, 11) RMD pan Masala and 12) Blue-Blue Tobacco sachets and other various Gutka/Tobacco products and seized material Market Value about Rs 6,00,000/- and arrested the accused Persons Mujahid Ali, Mohammed Khaja Moinuddin @ Haji, Mohammed Faisal, Shaik Mazahar, Shaik Azar Uddin, Osman-Bin-Ilyas-Zumbali, Mohammed Shafi, Anwar Ali (Absconding), Samad r/o Charminar (absconding), Purshotam r/o Shahinayathgunj (absconding)
The accused by name 1. Anwar Ali 2. Mujahid Ali and 3. Mohammed Haji is running a business (Gutka & Tobacco product sales, distribution) on the name of M/s New Royal Chalia Store, New Chalia Store & Mujahid Ali Store, all situated at MJ market, Hyderabad for their livelihood. They are indulging in illegal storage, marketing noxious Gutka products containing Tobacco contents on the name of various brands illegally to gain easy profits. While inspection found that they have storage space and selling the Gutka, Jardas which contains Tobacco and Nicotine as ingredients and chewing tobacco product like Chap Tobacco, pure Tobacco, Khaini which packed in pouches / Sachets on the name of various products.
They are purchasing the Noxious Gutak products from Samad, Purshotam, Osman-Bin-Ilyas-Zumbali, Shaik Mazahar, Shaik Azar Uddin through Mohammed Faisal and transporting them with the help of Auto trolley driver Mohammed Shafi and clandestinely transporting & storage in their shop and deliver to known and needy customers of Kirana stores, Pan Shop vendors to gain easy profits. The New chalia store owner Mohammed Haji receives Gutka products from Purshotam Traders C/o Shahinayathgunj, Hyderabad.
Since Telangana State has banned the sale, manufacture, distribution and storage of the gutka and all its variants. After that the accused were planned to earning easy money by way of selling of banned Gutkha in the market as it as much demand in the market. They used to purchase the banned Gutka products & noxious Gutka sachets containing Tobacco contents from the Organizer dealers in cheap rate and deliver to Kirana shops, Pan Shops in and around Hyderabad and other areas in high profits and gaining easy profits illegally and the accused violated the food safety and Standards Act 2006.
The Police Seized Noxious Gutka Packets which Contains Tobacco and Nicotine As Ingredients, The Seized material market value worth Rs. 6,00,000/-.
The apprehended accused persons along with seized property were handed over to SHO’s, Abid Road PS and Begumbazar PS for further investigation.

11 kids fall sick after eating contaminated food at anganbadi centre

Agra: Eleven children of an Albatia anganwadi centre were admitted to a government hospital on Thursday after having food at the centre, allegedly supplied by Akshaypatra. The children complained of stomach ache, nausea and vomiting soon after they had their lunch. Parents of the children alleged that they found a lizard in the food. Four children were sent back after getting first aid by the doctors while seven were admitted due to serious condition.
Talking with TOI, Sanjay Kumar, father of a child, said, “The children complained of stomach ache and vomiting after having khichdi in the anganbadi centre. We found lizard in the khichdi. We took our kids to the district hospital for treatment.”
Talking with TOI, district project officer, Rajendra Kumar, said, “The contaminated food has been sent to the food and drug safety team. If found guilty, we will take strict action against the food providing agency, Akshypatra.”
Chief medical superintendent of district hospital, Dr Subodh Kumar, said, “Seven children were admitted in the hospital. All of them are out of danger now.”
Director, strategic relations, Akshypatra, Bharat Dasa, said, “I am not aware about the incident. We always keep high standards of safety and hygiene in our kitchens so we will definitely look into the matter.”
