ராயபுரம் பகுதியில் குடோனில் பதுக்கிய ஸீ1 கோடி குட்கா பறிமுதல்-அதிகாரிகள் நடவடிக்கை

முழுவதும் பான்பராக், ஹன்ஸ், குட்கா உள்ளிட்ட மெல்லும் புகையிலை
பொருட்களுக்கு தமிழக அரசு தடைவிதித்துள்ளது. இவற்றை விற்பவர்கள் மீதும்,
பதுக்கி வைப்பவர்கள் மீதும் உணவு பாதுகாப்பு துறை அதிகாரிகள் நடவடிக்கை
எடுத்து வருகின்றனர்.
இந்நிலையில் கடந்த
18ம் தேதி சவுகார்பேட்டை குமரப்ப மேஸ்திரி தெருவில் உள்ள ஒரு குடோனில் தடை
செய்யப்பட்ட குட்கா பொருட்கள் பதுக்கி வைத்துள்ளதாக உணவு பாதுகாப்பு துறை
அதிகாரி லட்சுமி நாராயணாவுக்கு தகவல் கிடைத்தது. அதன்பேரில், அதிகாரிகள்
சதாசிவம், ஜெயராஜ், ஜெயகோபல், இளங்கோ, சுந்தரராஜ் ஆகியோர் அங்கு சோதனை
நடத்தினர். அங்கு 4 டன் குட்கா பொருட்களை அதிகாரிகள் பறிமுதல் செய்தனர்.

விசாரணை நடத்தியதில் ராயபுரம் பகுதியில் உள்ள ஒரு குடோனில் டன் கணக்கில்
குட்கா பொருட்கள் இருப்பது தெரிந்தது. இதையடுத்து கடந்த 2 நாட்களாக
அதிகாரிகள் ராயபுரம் பகுதியில் தீவிரமாக சோதனை நடத்தினர். அப்போது எஸ்என்
செட்டி தெருவில் மண்ணடியை சேர்ந்த பாலாஜி என்பவருக்கு சொந்தமான ஒரு
குடோனில் குட்கா பொருட்கள் இருப்பது கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது. அங்கு சென்று
சோதனை செய்தபோது 10க்கு மேற்பட்ட வடமாநில வாலிபர்கள் வேலை பார்த்தனர்.
குடோனில் 32 டன் குட்கா பொருட்கள் இருப்பது கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது. அவற்றை
அதிகாரிகள் பறிமுதல் செய்தனர். இவற்றின் மதிப்பு ஸீ1.11 கோடி என கூறப்படுகிறது. இதையடுத்து குடோனுக்கு அதிகாரிகள் சீல் வைத்தனர்.
இதுகுறித்து
அதிகாரிகள் கூறுகையில், தடை செய்யப்பட்ட குட்கா பொருட்கள் டெல்லியில்
இருந்து கொண்டு வரப்பட்டு, தமிழகம் முழுவதும் சப்ளை செய்ய குடோனில் பதுக்கி
வைத்து இருந்தனர். அவற்றை பறிமுதல் செய்துள்ளோம். மேலும் குடோனுக்கு சீல்
வைத்துள்ளோம். இவற்றை கொடுங்கையூரில் உள்ள குப்பை கொட்டும் வளாகத்தில் மாசு
கட்டுப்பாடு வாரிய அதிகாரிகள் முன்னிலையில் இன்று பள்ளம் தோண்டி அழிக்க
உள்ளோம் என்றனர்.

தனியார் குடோனில் பதுக்கி வைத்திருந்த ரூ.1 கோடியே 12 லட்சம் மதிப்பிலான
புகையிலை பொருட்களை அதிகாரிகள் பறிமுதல் செய்தனர். அதிகாரிகள் சோதனைசென்னை
சவுகார்பேட்டையில் கடந்த 2 நாட்களுக்குமுன்பு உணவு பாதுகாப்பு துறை
அதிகாரிகள் தடை செய்யப்பட்ட புகையிலை பொருட்களை பறிமுதல் செய்தனர்.
விசாரணையில், ராயபுரம் பகுதியில் இருந்து புகையிலை பொருட்கள் சென்னையின்
மற்ற பகுதிகளுக்கு விநியோகம் செய்யப்படுவது தெரியவந்தது. இதனையடுத்து
உணவு பாதுகாப்பு துறை சென்னை மாவட்ட நியமன அலுவலர் டாக்டர் லட்சுமி
நாராயணன் தலைமையில் சுந்தரராஜன், ஜெயகோபால், சதாசிவம், மணிமாறன், ஜெயராஜ்
அடங்கிய தனிப்படையினர் ராயபுரம் பகுதியில் சோதனை மேற்கொண்டு வந்தனர். ரூ.1.12 கோடி புகையிலை பறிமுதல் அப்போது,
ராயபுரம் சூரியநாராயண தெருவில் உள்ள தனியார் குடோனில் புகையிலைப்
பொருட்களை பதுக்கி வைத்திருப்பதாக தகவல் கிடைத்தது. இதனையடுத்து நேற்று
மாலை அங்கு சென்ற அதிகாரிகள், பாலாஜி என்பவருக்கு சொந்தமான கட்டிடத்தில்,
இயங்கி வரும் தனியார் போக்குவரத்து நிறுவன குடோனில் சோதனையிட்டனர்.அங்கு
ரூ.1 கோடியே 12 லட்சம் மதிப்பிலான 32 டன் மதிப்புள்ள புகையிலை பொருட்கள்
இருப்பது தெரியவந்தது. அங்கிருந்த ஆவணங்களை சோதனையிட்டபோது, புதுடெல்லியில்
இருந்து பெங்களூருக்கு கொண்டு செல்வதற்காக இந்த புகையிலை பொருட்கள் இங்கு
கொண்டு வரப்பட்டது தெரியவந்தது. புகையிலைப் பொருட்களை பறிமுதல்
செய்த அதிகாரிகள், இதுகுறித்து விசாரணை மேற்கொண்டு வருகின்றனர். மேலும்,
தனியார் குடோனுக்கு ‘சீல்’ வைக்கப்பட்டது. பறிமுதல் செய்யப்பட்ட புகையிலை
பொருட்களை கொடுங்கையூரில் உள்ள குப்பை கிடங்கிற்கு எடுத்து சென்று இன்று
அழிக்க உள்ளதாக அதிகாரிகள் தெரிவித்தனர்.

Chennai: Smuggling of banned chewable tobacco products into the city is on the rise. Food safety and drug administration officials on Thursday seized 32.5 tonnes of banned tobacco products worth 1 crore from a firm in Royapuram.Fifty-nine tonnes of tobacco products like gutkha worth 1.92 crore have been seized since May, when the ban came into effect.
“This is the biggest seizure since the ban came into force,” said district food safety officer S Lakshmi Narayan. The office of the firm that brought the consignment was sealed and police asked to act against the firm. “We will destroy the items at Kodungaiyur dump yard on Friday,” he added.
In July, transport and parcel firms had been warned against bringing such consignments from other states after 629.7kg of gutkha and pan masala worth 2lakhwere seized from a firm on Wall Tax Road. Most consignments are brought by rail or road along with other products.
Activists say the ban has become ‘a joke’. “Many find smuggling these products safe because even if they are caught they can get away with a small fine,” said Azhagar Senthil, social activist.
Some vendors say tobacco firms have come out with new ‘mixes’. “We get pan masala andchewing tobaccoseparately from thesamefirm.I gettwo packets for 7 and sell them for 10,” said one in Broadway.
Regular customers say the ban has not made any difference. “Earlier, I used to buy pan masala in a sachet. Now I buy the same product in two different sachets for an extra sum,” said a customer in Sowcarpet.
Some say the ban has also led to black marketing. A wholesale vendor of pan masala says a 3 sachet is being sold for 10- 15 in the black market.
Health experts say migrant workers are the major users of pan masala in the city and that the use of such products is among the causes for the increasing incidence of mouth cancer.

Over 31 tonnes of chewable tobacco products stored clandestinely in a warehouse were seized on Thursday.
Food
Safety and Drug Administration identified the storage of illegal
tobacco products worth Rs.1.12 crores near a facility of Central
Warehousing Corporation on Suryanarayana Street near Kalmandapam in
Royapuram.
Since the ban on chewable tobacco came
into effect in May, the food safety department has cracked down on
business units that sell the products.
To circumvent
this, wholesalers have been storing products in residential properties
over the past few months. Now, wholesalers are trying innovative means
to store the products, a Food Safety official said.
“The
screening of retail and wholesale shops and warehouses will continue.
We are now educating food business operators in Chennai district,” the
official said.
The State government banned the
manufacture, storage, distribution and sale of carcinogenic chewable
forms of tobacco based on a proposal submitted by the State Tobacco
Control Cell.
