Spoilt dun peas seized

Safety Officers on Thursday conducted a raid on a private warehouse,
and seized heaps of fungus-infested imported dun peas worth about Rs.6
crore.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of officials, led
by Designated Officer of Food Safety and Standards Act M.Jagadish
Chandrabose, inspected the imported consignment. The officials collected
six samples from different heaps of dun peas.
Mr.Chandrabose said the samples would be sent to Microbiological Lab at Guindy, Chennai, for test.
A
total of 3,500 tonnes of dun peas were shipped from Australia six
months ago, Dr.Chandrabose said after the raid. The officials sealed the
warehouse.
