JMC continues drive against food adulteration,polythene

20 Kg banned material seized, Rs 9600 fine realised


Jammu, June 7: In continuation of its drive against polythene carry bags, food adulteration and smoking in public places, the team of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Saturday conducted an extensive checking in different areas of the Jammu City and booked four persons for smoking in public, seized 20 Kg polythene carry bags and also realized a fine of Rs 9600 from the defaulters.
As per official handout, the team of JMC under the supervision of Dr. Mohammad Saleem Khan, JMC Health Officer, inspected various food establishments like hotels, restaurants, provisional stores, food stalls, sabzi (vegetable) vendors, fruit juice corners / vendors, tea stalls and ice cream corners at Railway Station, Kunjwani, Gangyal, Preet Nagar, Narwal, Nanak Nagar, Shivaji Chowk, Indra CHowk, Janipur, Bantalab, Panjtirthi, New Plot, Mahesh Pura, Mubark Mandi and Talab Tillo.
The team also lifted six samples of different kinds of food articles like dalia (Savour Brand) from New Plot, Vanaspati (Rath Brand) from Mahesh Pura, Paneer and Dahi from Talab Tillo. Tea (Pataka Brand and Refined Soyabean oil (Gokul Brand) from Transport Nagar, Narwal and sent them to food analyst Jammu for testing their standard of purity.
Dr. Mohd. Saleem Khan appealed to food business operators not to sell unhygienic food materials. He warned that strict action under Food Safety & Standards Act, 2006, would be taken against the defaulters.
He also warned all the food business operators dealing with milk and milk products not to sell adulterated milk and milk products to the consumers. He also directed not to display their food products openly on roadside and out of their premises and not to use colour for preparing sweets.
