JMC continues drive against polythene, food adulteration, smoking in public places

25 Kg banned material seized, Rs 9800 fine realised
Jammu, May 28: In continuation of its drive against food adulteration, polythene and smoking in public places, the team of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) today seized 25 Kg of polythene carry bags and also realized fine of Rs. 9800 from the defaulters. 
The team of Health & Sanitation Wing of JMC, under the supervision of Dr. Mohd. Saleem Khan, Health Officer JMC, inspected various food establishments like hotels, restaurants, provisional stores, food stalls, vegetable (sabzi) vendors, fruit juice corners / vendors etc. at Railway Station, Kunjwani, Gangyal, Preet Nagar, Nanak Nagar, Shivaji Chowk and their adjoining across Jammu City.
The team seized about 25 Kg of polythene carry bags and also realized a fine of Rs. 9800 from defaulters in various areas. During the round, the JMC also advised the citizens not to smoke in thepublic places as it is injurious to health.
Moreover, the team also lifted four samples of different kinds of food articles including fruit drink (Minute Main Brand), Apple Fresh & Nimboo Fresh, from Below Gummat, Sewain (Mamta Brand) and Oats (Dalia) from Digiana area and sent them to food analyst Jammu for ascertaining their standard of purity.
Health Officer, JMC, Dr. Mohd. Saleem Khan further appealed to all the food business operators not to sell any type of unhygienic food items not conforming to prescribed quality and standards which can put the public health to danger. 
He warned that stringent action under Food Safety & Standards Act 2006 shall be taken against the defaulters. All the food business operators dealing with milk and milk products were also strictly warned not to sell adulterated milk and milk products. 
They were also directed not to display their food products openly on roadside and out of their premises and not to use colour for preparing sweets. Health Officer also advised the shopkeepers to cover their sweets and other eatable items, so that they are not exposed to dust and flies.
